2018 Atlanta FC/ Dunwoody FC SUMMER CAMP FOR BEGINNERS AND EXPERIENCED FENCERS, AND COACHES July 23rd – 27th 9am - 4pm. The Atlanta Fencers’ Club and the Dunwoody Fencing Club are pleased to jointly host a summer camp. The focus will be on getting the fencers prepared for the upcoming High School and USFA competitive season. Beginners are also welcome. The camp will be held at the Atlanta Fencers’ Club, with 7,000 sq ft of space, 9 strips on a raised wood floor (6 metallic), locker rooms w/ showers, plenty of air-conditioning, wi-fi and armory The 2018 Coaching Staff: Maestro Gene Gettler - Camp Director, is head coach at AFC and Centennial HS. Many of Gettler’s students have become state, regional and national finalists and champions, including one pupil who made two Olympic Teams, and another who has 2 gold medals and silver medal at the Veterans’ World Championships. Gene is a USFCA certified 3-weapon Fencing Master. Dr. Kathy Vail – Head coach and founder of Dunwoody FC, Regional Coordinator for USA Fencing, Vice-Chair and founder of the Georgia High School Fencing League Head coach of Roswell HS, Dunwoody HS and North Atlanta HS. Coach Vail’s students have earned NCAA fencing scholarships at major universities, as well as medals at regional, national and NCAA tournaments. USFCA certified épée coach Don Hilton – Head Coach of Johns Creek HS FencingTeam and Joyeuse Fencing Club Bill Lanier - Assistant Foil Coach at AFC, rated Referee John Stephens – Coach at Dunwoody FC, Head coach at Campbell HS and Fellowship Christian Academy, Coach at Pope HS, USFCA certified épée coach, Experienced armorer Eddie Shawen –Assistant Foil Coach at AFC, rated Referee Carmen Hall-- Assistant Foil Coach at AFC Daily group and individual instruction sessions are geared to help both the beginner and experienced fencer strengthen their fundamentals and tactical skills. Group activities emphasize lots of fun while improving your fitness and footwork. Extensive electrical bouting takes place each afternoon, allowing the coaches to give you feedback on your use of techniques and on-strip strategies. Break period activities include review of world class fencers’ videos, discussions about rules, tactics, etc, and basic weapons repair. We will have a barbecue lunch on Tuesday and a pizza party on Friday. Campers should bring a lunch the other days as well as daily snacks. Sports drinks, and bottled water are available for purchase. MAESTRO ACADEMY – Coaches interested in improving their teaching skills and working towards USFCA certification will have coaching classes with Maestro Gettler and Dr Vail,, as well as observe the coaches and work directly with the campers under the supervision of the coaches.. The fee for Maestro Academy is $350 for the week, with discounts if the coach brings fencers to the camp. TO REGISTER: The camp fee is $350. A $150 non-refundable deposit is due with your application by July 20th. The balance may be paid upon your arrival to camp.
