About AskFRED/FRED

FRED stands for "Fencing Results and Events Database". Thanks to Bill Nary for the name idea.

FRED, founded in 2002, is a self-serve platform for fencing tournament organizers and fencers to coordinate participation in fencing tournaments.

In the 2022-2023 fencing season, FRED was redeveloped from the ground up to ensure its continued stability into the future.

AskFRED takes the security of your data seriously. We implement industry-standard security practices and partner with trusted infrastructure providers to protect your information.

Payment Security

AskFRED is PCI SAQ-A compliant. We never store, process, or transmit credit card data on our servers. All payment card transactions are handled entirely by our payment partners, Stripe and PayPal, both of which are PCI Level 1 Service Providers—the highest level of certification in the payment card industry.

Infrastructure Security

AskFRED is hosted on Heroku, a Salesforce company. Heroku maintains comprehensive security certifications including:

• SOC 2 Type 2 – Independent verification of security, availability, and confidentiality controls
• ISO 27001 – International standard for information security management
• ISO 27017 – Cloud-specific security controls
• ISO 27018 – Protection of personally identifiable information in public cloud environments
