Special Guest Coach Sergey Bida


Sergey Bida is an Olympic silver medalist and one of the most accomplished épée fencers of his generation. Ranked World No.1 in the FIE rankings during the 2019–2020 World Cup season, he has consistently competed at the highest level of international fencing for over a decade. Throughout his career, Sergey trained under renowned épée coach Alexander Glazunov, developing a highly analytical approach to fencing that combines world-class technique, tactical precision, and deep understanding of competitive psychology.


Sergey has spent his career studying the science of fencing at the highest level, earning a degree as a fencing coach with honors from the Russian University of Sports, as well as a degree in sports psychology from the Institute of Psychotherapy and Clinical Psychology. This academic foundation, combined with elite competitive experience, allows him to teach athletes not only how to fence, but how to think, prepare, and perform like champions.


Over the course of his professional career Sergey has achieved some of the highest results in modern épée fencing:

After moving to the United States, Sergey continued his competitive success, winning:

• Gold Medal – Division I Men’s Épée NAC, December 2023


Today Sergey brings his elite competitive experience into coaching, working with athletes who aspire to reach the highest levels of international fencing.

His coaching philosophy focuses on developing high-level technical mastery, tactical intelligence, and the mental resilience required to succeed in elite competition.



Special Guest Coach Zhanna Bikkina


With over 20 years of experience as an Épée coach, Zhanna Bikkina has developed athletes who achieved top results at World, European, and Pan American Championships. She brings a strong commitment to team-building, leadership, and shaping a shared competitive identity that drives consistent excellence.


Coaching Experience:

Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA, Assistant Coach for Men’s and Women’s Fencing - Epee, 2024 - Present

  1. Zhanna lead the Epee squad second season according to a structured plans along with the Stanford Coaching staff, and the Team is steadily growing.
  2. First individual medal (Silver) of Epee squad at the ACC Championship 2025

Bida Fencing Academy, Santa Clara, CA, USA, Head Coach Women’s Fencing - Epee program, 2025 - Present

  1. Started in September 2025. I am organizing and developing a program for Women’s Epee squad at the club.

Academy of Fencing Masters (AFM), Sunnyvale, CA, USA, Fencing Master, 2019 - 2025

  1. Coached athletes to win over 30 national medals in individual and team competitions across various age categories, from Y-10 to DIV1.
  2. Developed a specialized training program for Leehi Machulsky, who achieved the #1 junior women’s épée ranking globally in the 2023-2024 season.
  3. Guided Leehi to become the Junior World Champion in the team event and a bronze medalist in individual competition at the 2024 World Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
  4. Led our club’s women’s épée team to a bronze medal at the Junior Olympic Championships in Salt Lake City (2022) and another bronze at the USA Fencing National Championships in Minneapolis (2022).
  5. Selected by the US Fencing Association to coach the US National Junior Team at the 2023 World Cup in Lima, Peru, where the team secured a silver medal.

Children's and Youth Sports School of Olympic Reserve, Kazan, Russian Federation, Professional Fencing Épée Coach, 1997 - 2019

  1. Coached the fencing team of the Ministry of Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan, developing five athletes who reached the Russian national team level.
  2. Coached Ella Minnullina to become the #1 ranked cadet épée fencer in the world for the 2018-2019 season, and a silver medalist at the 2018 European Championships.
  3. Guided Alexander Velikanov and Daria Pozharova to become World Champions in the junior team event in 2008 and 2009, respectively.
  4. Received multiple commendations from the Ministry of Youth Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan for the outstanding achievements of my athletes.


Additional Experience:

  1. Deputy Director, Center of Development of Fencing in Volga Federal District (2009-2019): Led regional fencing development under the Russian Fencing Federation.
  2. Deputy Venue Manager, Kazan Equestrian Complex (Fencing), 27th Summer Universiade (2013): Managed fencing venue operations for an international multi-sport event.
