We are thrilled to announce our first tournament since moving to Norwood Park, Chicago!


The 2025 RedStar Youth Challenge!


Come enjoy all our facility has to offer, including a huge lounge and café, five restrooms, lots of room for bags, twelve available strips for warmups and bouting, instant replay for all gold medal bouts, and all finals being uploaded to our YouTube channel. Results will be posted on AskFred and Fencing Time.


Event Schedule & Details


Events (capped at 35): $40/per event *UNPAID registrations will be skipped in the cap limit. Only PAID registrations will count.

Parking: Feel free to drop off your fencer at our door, and look for parking after. Ample free street parking nearby (do not block driveways, bus stops, or park in the Gerber parking lot).

Spectators: We will be enforcing that coaches-only (or one guardian per family) are allowed on the fencing floor (Our lounge can seat 30+)

Arrival: We suggest arriving at least 1 hr before the posted start time, aka, the "close of registration."  That means the fencer must be here and checked in at the bout committee table by the close of registration. 

  1. Please do not bring chairs. Small collapsible seats are acceptable for fencers
  2. Please make sure your shoes are dry and clean before entering the fencing area
  3. A water fountain is available
  4. Concessions will be upstairs in the parents' lounge

Armoury/weapons check: We will have an armourer on site

Concessions: Café located upstairs to purchase coffee, snacks, and drinks. Local restaurant options are close by for lunch.

Referees: SafeSport Certified, rated


Tournament Fees & Payment:

Cost per Event: $40 preregistered & pre-paid / $50 preregistered online but pay at the door

Walk-ups: $55 (at your own risk, as events are capped)

Refunds: Fees are refundable through December 5th. Fees are used to secure referees. Sorry, there are no exceptions, and no refunds after December 5th.

Y10: Born 2015 - 2018

*PLEASE MAKE SURE FENCER AGE VERIFICATION IS UPLOAD TO THEIR USA FENCING ACCOUNT BEFORE ARRIVAL, AND CARRY A COPY OF FENCER'S PASSPORT OR A COPY OF BIRTH CERTIFICATE.


USA Fencing rules will be enforced. Each fencer must wear full fencing clothing, including a plastron (under-arm protector), knickers, and long socks. Masks will be punch-tested for safety at the event.* USA Fencing rules require each fencer to have a second body cord and a second weapon by the strip.


What Equipment Fencers Need

Equipment selection is critical for both safety and performance. Below is a list of the minimum required equipment that you should check and recheck for functionality:

  1. Mask (sewn‐in bib, must pass 12K punch test)
  2. Underarm protector
  3. Breast Protector (mandatory for women. Additional FIE padding is REQUIRED for Women's Foil and any Men's Foil fencer who chooses to wear a chest protector)
  4. Jacket (no holes, must close in back or opposite weapon arm)
  5. Lamé (Foil or Sabre)
  6. Knickers (no holes, must close in back or opposite weapon arm, must be overlapped by jacket by at least four inches. Must conform to RH/LH weapon arm of fencer)
  7. Glove (no holes except for body cord. Must cover approximately half the forearm. Sabre gloves must be FIE rated and 800N)
  8. Long socks (white, must reach the bottom of your knickers‐soccer socks work well)
  9. Fencing shoes or sneakers
  10. Minimum two working weapons (foil weapons must pass the weight test)
  11. Y10 fencers must use weapons with blade size #0 or #2
