FRED Announces the SabreCave 2003 and Southwest High School Championship Seires #1 SabreCave 2003 will be held in conjunction with the SWHSCS #1. Presented by Grapevine Texas Fencing Center October 4th and 5th, 2003 Fencers from across the Southwest Section and beyond will be inattendance at SabreCave. As always, a highly skilled and professional referee corps andtournament staff has been secured! Event times and locations: Saturday, October 4th Gym opens 10:00 Close of registration Junior Mixed Foil: 10:30 am Junior Mixed Sabre: 2:30 pm Sunday, October 5th Gym opens - 8:00 am Close of registration Junior Mixed Epee: 10:00 am Open Women's Sabre: 11:30 am Open Mixed Sabre : 2:00 pm (please note the changes in schedule!) Registration - $15 Each event - $10 Late registration after October 1st - additional $5 First 25 entries into Mixed Sabre receive a FREE Limited EditionSabreCave2003 T-shirt. Additional shirts available- $15each. Junior events are part of the Southwest High School Series and arerestricted to fencers with birth years from 1985 – 1991. Points areawarded to clubs based results of individual members. Stay tuned forother SWHSCS tournaments! The venue for the event will be the Midway Recreation Center inEuless, Texas. Shower facilities, snack bar, plenty of parking and agreat floor to fence upon. Located at 300 Midway Drive in Euless, TX - with easy access to major DFW highways. Host Hotel: Holiday Inn DFW Airport West, 3005 West Airport Frwy(also known as State Highway 183), Bedford, TX 76021 Phone:817-267-3181 Price: $49 Ask for GTFC rate (fencer rate). USFA Membership required: Fencers must be a USFA or FIE Member.Proof of membership is required - "Fence for Fun" category isacceptable; however, fencers may not earn ratings. USFA membershipforms will be available at the tournament. If you do not have proofof membership, you will be required to complete and pay for amembership. Fencers are reminded they need the signature of a parentor guardian (not a coach) on the membership form. Payment formemberships is made directly to the USFA (bring separate checks for the tournament and membership). Tournament Organization: All weapons will be fenced electrically. Mask and body chords will be subject to testing. Cuffs are requiredfor Sabre events. Original seeding will be based on National Rating(e.g., A02, B00, etc.). One round of pools will be fenced; 100% up toDE’s of 15 touch bouts. Initial seeding, seeding after pools andfinal placements will be posted in the venue. Fencers are responsiblefor verifying the posted lists, and signing their pool and DEsheets. Changes will not be made after fencing commences. Junior Events arerestricted to fencers with birth years 1985-1991. Open eventsrestricted to fencers born before 1991. In conjunction with SabreCave 2003 and SWHSCS #1, GTFC Will behosting an FOC Referee Clinic, complete with Exam and PracticalObservations. Referee Clinic will be held on Friday evening,starting at 6:30 (dinner is provided) to 10:30 and Saturday morning, startingat 8:00 am and going until 10:00 am. Examinations will be heldSaturday morning, and practical examinations will be ongoingthroughout the day. The cost for the referee clinic will be$30 (with dinner on Friday and breakfast on Saturdayprovided). There will be no cost for the exam and practicalobservations, however, referees seeking to be rated will not be paidper-diems (Lunch will be provided, however!). Scholarships areavailable, sponsored by the North Texas Division. The FOC Referee Clinic is a valuable learning opportunity for allpeople involved in fencing, weather or not you ever intend toreferee.
