3-weapon referee seminar led by Certified Referee Instructor Ivan Lee. Ivan was a member of the 2004 Olympic saber team, is Head Coach of Women's Fencing at Long Island University, and has 23 years of refereeing experience. All skill levels welcome!

Join us for a three-weapon referee seminar led by Certified Referee Instructor Ivan Lee, sponsored by the Iowa Division of USA Fencing and Red Door Fencing. Schedule: Friday, Jan. 14 5:30-8:30pm Saturday, Jan. 15 10 am-3 pm The plan is to cover general refereeing topics and epee-specific information on Friday evening, and then focus on foil and saber on Saturday. Practical exams will also be given on Saturday. If they have not already done so, participants who wish to earn a referee rating must take and pass the online exam. The fee for the exam is $25 (not included in the attendance fee), but you can retake it free of charge within 48 hours if you do not pass the first time. Attendees are not required to take the exams, but everyone should familiarize themselves with the study guide and rule book so they can more easily follow the discussion. We don't want to keep track of vaccination statuses (though we appreciate that the vast majority of fencing folks are vaccinated!) and it'll be too cold to keep the doors open for ventilation. About the clinician: Ivan Lee is a 2004 US Olympian and 2014 Hall of Fame member with 23 years of refereeing experience. He is a Certified Referee Instructor and Observer, with ratings of 2 in saber, 3 in foil, and 5 in epee. He has served as a referee assigner for USA Fencing and the Public Schools Athletic League in New York City. His fencing career also includes 15 US National Championships, 10 NCAA Championships, and team gold at the 2001 Junior World Championships, as well as two golds at the 2003 Pan Am Games. Ivan is the Head Coach for Women’s Fencing at Long Island University and the Head Saber Coach at Long Island Fencing Center.
