The 2008 Amarillo Open Fencing Tournament is hosted by Amarillo College Fencing Association. This is a great tournament to prepare for the Junior Olympics the next weekend.

2008 AMARILLO OPEN FENCING TOURNAMENT The 2008 Amarillo Open is hosted by Amarillo College Fencing Association, the largest fencing club in the Texas panhandle. This is a Plains Texas - New Mexico Cup Tournament. This tournament has been moved up two weeks from past years in order to place it BEFORE the National Junior Olympic Championships. This tournament will be a great warmup for the Junior Olympics! DATE February 9 - 10, 2008 LOCATION Amarillo College East Campus Student Activity Center 1401 J Avenue, Building 3501 Amarillo, TX DIRECTIONS TO THE AMARILLO COLLEGE EAST CAMPUS STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTER Take Exit 80 on Interstate 40 on the far east side of Amarillo. Turn north and drive 1.6 miles. The venue will be off the street at the back of a parking lot on the left. If you use Mapquest, you will get lost. If you use the map link on Ask FRED, the entry to the venue is a half block north of the green arrow on J Avenue. BOUT COMMITTEE Gerrie Baumgart of the FOC will chair our bout committee for the 5th year in a row. Additional referees include Ed Richards, Jerry Benson, Aaron Clements, Jay Young, Dirk Moonen, Chuck Slaughter and Jared Slaughter. Additional referees will be announced as confirmed. EVENTS SCHEDULED Fencing will commence on each event as soon as possible after close of registration. Please arrive sufficiently early so you will be ready to fence when registration closes. The venue will be open at approximately 7:30 a.m. both days. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2008 Senior Mixed Epee Born 1994 or earlier Registration closes at 8:30 a.m. Youth 10 - 12 Mixed Epee Born 1995 - 2000 Registration closes at 8:30 a.m. Senior Women's Foil Born 1994 or earlier Registration closes at 11:30 a.m. Junior (U20) Mixed Foil Born 1988 - 1994 Registration closes at 1:30 p.m. Senior Mixed Saber Born 1994 or earlier Registration closes at 3:00 p.m. Youth 10 - 12 Mixed Saber Born 1995 - 2000 Registration closes at 3:00 p.m. SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2008 Senior Mixed Foil Born 1994 or earlier Registration closes at 8:30 a.m. Youth 10 - 12 Mixed Foil Born 1995 - 2000 Registration closes at 8:30 a.m. Senior Women's Epee Born 1994 or earlier Registration closes at 11:30 a.m. Junior (U20) Mixed Epee Born 1992 - 1995 Registration closes at 1:30 p.m. REGISTRATION FEE $20 Tournament Registration Fee if pre-registered on Ask Fred. $50 Tournament Registration Fee If NOT pre-registered on Ask Fred. EVENTS FEES The event fees may be paid at the tournament. $15 for each Senior Mixed Open Event $10 for each Junior Mixed Open Event $5 for each Women's Only event $5 for each Youth 10-12 Event Fencers with an "A" classification in a weapon will have their event fees waived in the events where they fence with an "A" classification if the fencer has pre-registered on Ask Fred. USFA RULES All USFA rules will be enforced in the tournament. Please bring proof of USFA membership or you will not be allowed to compete. New USFA membership applications will be available at the tournament. COMPETITION FORMAT Standard USFA pool format with 100 percent advancing to direct elimination, with no repechage. AWARDS Medals will be awarded to the top 8 fencers in each Senior Mixed Open Event and Mixed Junior Event. Medals will be awarded to the top 4 fencers in each Youth 12 Event and each Senior Women's Event. ARMORER The tournament will have an armorer to check fencing equipment before each competition and to assist with equipment problems during the tournament. Rocky Sorensen is currently scheduled to serve as Head Armorer, with assistance from Will Willis. Both are certified armorers by USFA. HOTEL ACCOMODATIONS There are many hotels in the Amarillo area that will fit your budget. Since we are currently unable to guarantee a certain number of rooms, we do not have a special rate arranged at any specific hotel. Virtually every national hotel chain is represented in Amarillo so you have lots of options. BOX LUNCHES For the convenience of those attending the tournament, you will be able to order a lunch each morning for approximately $7. Those lunches will be delivered around 12 noon. A bottle of water will come with the box lunch. Currently, Saturday's lunch will be from Chick-Fil-A and Sunday's lunch will be from Jason's Deli. CONCESSIONS There will be a concessions table where you may buy fruit, water bottles and gatorade during the competition.
