PRE-SEASON CONDITIONING CAMP

The Foundation of a Championship Season

This camp is built around one core principle:

the season must begin with conditioning — not bouts.

The BFA Pre-Season Conditioning Camp is a dedicated one-week program focused exclusively on general physical preparation (GPP), following the same methodology used by national teams and Olympic programs that win gold medals.

This is exactly how we prepared for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo — and it remains the most effective way to build a successful competitive season.

What This Camp Is About

This week is devoted entirely to overall athletic development.

There is no fencing sparring volume, no random training, and no mixed objectives.

The goal is to build the physical foundation that will support high-level fencing throughout the season.

Training focuses on:

  1. strength and power development
  2. speed, agility, and coordination
  3. endurance and work capacity
  4. injury prevention and body resilience
  5. movement efficiency and balance

This is how elite athletes prepare before increasing bout volume and competitive intensity.

Why Conditioning Comes First

At the highest level, the season is built in stages:

  1. General Physical Preparation (GPP)
  2. Increased volume of fencing and bouts
  3. Refinement of quality, precision, and tactical execution

Skipping this first step leads to fatigue, injuries, and inconsistent performance later in the season.

This camp establishes the base.

The following phases of the Grand Camp build on it.

Training Environment

To deliver this level of conditioning, BFA rents a dedicated professional athletic stadium 15 minutes from our location, allowing athletes to train in a space designed specifically for:

  1. speed work,
  2. explosive movements,
  3. athletic coordination,
  4. and full-body conditioning.

This environment mirrors how national teams and world-class programs structure their preseason preparation.

Camp Schedule

Training Days:

Monday – Friday

9:00 AM – 11:30 PM

Dates (2026)

Week 1: July 27 – July 31

(The following phase of the Grand Camp transitions into increased fencing volume and bout work.)

What Athletes Will Experience

  1. Daily high-level athletic conditioning sessions
  2. Structured strength, speed, and agility training
  3. Coordination and balance development
  4. Endurance work aligned with fencing demands
  5. Injury-prevention routines used by elite programs
  6. Clear understanding of how physical preparation supports fencing performance

This is not fitness for fitness’s sake.

This is conditioning with purpose.

Who This Camp Is For

  1. All level athletes
  2. Fencers preparing for a serious competitive season
  3. Athletes committed to long-term performance and consistency

Groups are organized by age and level to ensure appropriate intensity and load.

Why This Camp Matters

This camp does not promise quick results.

It delivers something far more valuable:

a strong, resilient body capable of sustaining elite fencing over an entire season.

Athletes who start the year this way:

  1. move better,
  2. recover faster,
  3. stay healthier,
  4. and perform more consistently when competition intensifies.
