Solstice Smash

Welcome to the Solstice Smash! (This is the SUNDAY FENCERS edition, you may receive a similar note for Saturday) The 'Smash' is designed to be novice friendly yet appropriate for advanced fencers. The building - Kenmore Middle School Gym, 200 S. Carling Springs Rd Arlington (just off Route 50) - will be open at 9:30 AM SUNDAY. Please don’t plan to be there much earlier. Electrical (all) fencing gear can be provided on advance request. We recommend fencers have 2 working electric weapons and bodycords handy, but will not strictly enforce that rule in the spirit of our novice –friendly event. We will have a loaner weapon and body cord or two strip-side. Registration: $30/day, no per-event fees (USFA Competitive Membership required, you can do that at the door and pay $65 (60 upgrade) by check to ‘USFA’ at the door; or do it online – bring paper receipt) Events Scheduled: the time is when check-in/registration closes. The first thing to do when you walk in is visit the registration table, to - check in, USFA membership if required ($60/65 check to USFA) - pay $30 (check to Arlington Fencers Club), - Hand in parent-signed paperwork (see below) - Head for the gear issue table, if applicable. You should be there a half hour earlier (more if you need to borrow gear) and fencing will start approx. 15 minutes after that time. Most event first rounds take about an hour and then everyone does a 2nd round- Direct Elimination DE. If your kid keeps winning after an hour or so they will be done (earlier if they lose). No food in the gym, but cafeteria tables are adjacent. You are required to have a signed Arlington County parks & rec hold harmless form on file. see attachment - please print and parent sign!
