FenceAthlon 2023

It's back! The FenceAthlon event will be part of the 2024 Will Fence for Food Tournament. Fencers, 13 and older, who enter the senior open epee, foil, and saber events may qualify for the FenceAthlon event. The top 4 to 8 point holders will be seeded into the FenceAthon direct-elimination table based on points from the senior open epee, foil, and saber events.

How the FenceAthlon Works

  • The top-seeded fencer in each FenceAthlon bout chooses the weapon to be fenced first or may defer.
  • Each direct-elimination FenceAthlon bout is a relay race to 21 points, broken into three seven-point segments. A segment ends when a fencer scores 7, 14, then 21 points.
  • Each fencer has 2 minutes to change equipment between segments. A Red Card penalty is given at 2 minutes, with an additional Red Card penalty for every 30 seconds beyond 2 minutes.
  • Each fencer may have a designated assistant at the strip between segments to help with equipment changes.
  • No coaching is allowed during Fenceathlon bouts.
  • The fencer that reaches 21 points wins the Fenceathon!

FenceAthlon Awards

Along with the glory of being the best overall fencer of the day, the winner will receive a $250 gift certificate from Absolute Fencing and have $250 donated in their name to the Will Fence for Food designated charity.
