Play-in and Semis July 13, 15, 20, 22; Tentative (depending on number of teams) semi finals July 27 and 29. Finals and BBQ August 1st in the afternoon. Limit 6 teams per weapon
Gather your friends and join us for the 4th annual Bouts and Brews Summer Team Series! Open to teams of any adult fencers (21+), the event will take place over 4-6 weeknights and a Saturday afternoon championship--gift cards to local businesses will be awarded to the winners! The finals will feature high quality referees and a barbeque for athletes and friends!
Registration is by single weapon. We will use the standard 45-touch relay format, and team rosters may have up to 5 fencers (2 reserves). At least 3 fencers must be available to fence for your team on each night that you are assigned a match (teams will likely not each be assigned to fence on every weeknight). The event will be limited to 6 teams per weapon--teams can be mixed gender and age (over 21). New this year: teams may include parafencers and matches will be fenced "walk n' roll" style, meaning single bouts with a parafencer will be fenced seated, while all other bouts will be fenced on a traditional strip. Non-parafencers who have an injury and would like to fence as a seated fencer may do so, but you will be designated a parafencer for the duration of the league.
The first two weeks will be a teams pool--by the end of these nights, each team will have fenced each of the others in their weapon (teams will be scheduled to fence on 2 to 4 nights, depending on number of teams). The final weeknight(s) will feature direct elimination matches through the semi finals, and Saturday August 1st will be final matches and fence-off for 3rd.
Matches will be scheduled between 6:30pm-9pm each night, with communication about specific schedules closer to the start date. Please arrive at least 30 minutes in advance to warm up and start on time. Doors at 5:30pm. Play-in rounds will be self-reffed; finals will have professional reffing. Fencers who are not scheduled for team matches on a certain night are welcome to come in for open fencing. The finals will take place the afternoon of August 1st; exact time TBD, followed by a BBQ at BFC. Friends welcome.
AskFred will not allow you to register a 5th fencer - after you register your team, I will send you an email asking whether you have a 5th fencer to add to your roster and to collect contact information for all participating fencers. I will also ask if any of your team athletes are parafencers.
After each weeknight match(es), there will be a social at a local bar or brewery.
Cost is $120 per team. All athletes must have at least USA Fencing access membership. email outreach@bostonfencingclub.org with questions. We'll see you there!
