CSU BIG GREEN Mixed Open and Women's Events at Cleveland State University

CSU and Forge Fencing are proud to host the first BIG GREEN Mixed Open and Women’s Event sanctioned by USA Fencing to support the Cleveland State Fencing Team.  

We would like to invite USA Fencing community members to compete and celebrate the decades-long fencing legacy of Cleveland State Fencing.  A special alumni match will be held at noon on Saturday, September 14. The community will also have the chance to meet the team with a Viking salute at the Viking House on Saturday after the Mixed Epee event. Can’t make the event? Enter our Virtual Tournament with a large or small donation and a random winner will win a Cleveland State Fencing Fan Package (no students or potentially recruitable high school students allowed, sorry!) Let's make the BIG GREEN an annual event honoring Cleveland State University’s rich fencing history! 

Registration closes Wednesday, 9/11. All incomplete registrations will be deleted at that time. Walk-ins will be accepted on the day of the event, at double the fees. No refunds after September 11th.

Prepayment is required to confirm registration. 

$5 Registration Fee 

$40 Per Event Fee 

All proceeds go directly to support the Cleveland State Fencing Team. 

Awards: 

Medals for the top 3 finishers in each event (with a tie for 3rd) will be awarded. To compete in the Virtual Tournament, you must be deemed ineligible to compete in collegiate sports. The Alumni Meet happens just for bragging rights. There is no fee to participate in this round, but your donations are appreciated.

Equipment Control: 

Full USA Fencing uniform and equipment standards will be upheld. Plan for armory control to check body cords, masks, gloves, and lames at the same standard you would expect at a national event. All athletes, coaches, and spectators agree to follow the USA Fencing Codes of Conduct. There will be no vendor onsite.  Everyone will be required to sign a Cleveland State Athletics Participation Waiver.

Event Flow: 

Anticipate that events with 24 or more participants may be flighted. Athletes should be prepared for events to start at the close of registration. Any expected schedule changes will be announced at least 1 week prior to the event.

Cleveland is an awesome place to visit! The Woodling Gym address is 2451 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44115 in the heart of Cleveland State University’s campus. We are walking distance to many fine food establishments and hotels.

Woodling Gym is the PE building on the campus map. Parking is adjacent.

Event Schedule: 

All times posted are close of registration; events run on time. The gym will be open at 7:30am on both days of competition and armory control will be open one hour before the first competition. There will be no early Friday night equipment check. 

Saturday 

9:00am: Senior Mixed Saber 

Noon - 1pm: Alumni + Team Event 

1:30pm: Senior Mixed Epee 

Sunday  

9:00am: Senior Women's Epee 

9:00am: Senior Women's Saber

10:30am: Senior Women's Foil

1:00pm: Senior Mixed Foil
