On the evening of Monday, November 13, 1922 on the campus of USC, eight fencers gathered before a "good sized, and very enthusiastic crowd" to compete in the first tournament of the first season of the newly-formed Southern California Division of the AFLA (now USA Fencing). Please join us on Sunday, November 13, 2022 to celebrating 100 years of fencing in Southern California! Entry fee: $45 per event with pre-registration ($90 per event at the door) The first 8 fencers who sign up at to help set up will have their entry fees waived. Set up starts at 6 AM on morning of the tournament. Events: Final Check in close times will be announced 1 week prior to Tournament. Location: Hutto Patterson Gymnasium - Bldg GM Pasadena City College 1570 E. Colorado Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91106 The gym is located next to the Football Field. Parking: Fee is 2.00 for a daily parking pass. To purchase parking pass, look for the yellow kiosk. (Exact change is advised.) Closest Parking lot is Student Parking Lot No.4 located at 1591-1421 E. Del Mar Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91106 COVID PROTOCOLS: This tournament is subject to state laws and orders regarding COVID-19, including assembly of persons. According to USA Fencing recent regulations as well as local regulations, face masks are optional. All fencers, coaches, referees, volunteers, spectators, etc. are asked to self monitor for Covid related symptoms or exposure. If you are symptomatic, please do not attend. Temperature check may be administered at the door. USA Fencing rules will be enforced. All fencers must be current members of the USA Fencing (Access or Competitive Level membership). Proof of USA Fencing membership is either an unexpired membership card, an email from USA Fencing, or listing on the USA Fencing website. Membership forms will be available at the tournament or may be downloaded from the website, however USA Fencing is charging $10 extra for paper entry forms. To speed up the process, it will be better to renew membership online at If proof of membership is unavailable fencers will be required to submit a new membership application form with payment at the door. No exceptions. Equipment: Full fencing uniform is required. Masks and gloves will be checked. USA Fencing now requires the use of 800N Saber Gloves. Please ensure that all Saber fencers are now equipped with these gloves at this tournament otherwise you will not be able to fence. Also any foil fencers using chest protectors must include the FIE foam padding per USA Fencing Standards. Referees will be checking this on strip. Format: One round of pools with 100% promotion to direct elimination, and no fence-off for 3rd place. Medals will be awarded to top 4 fencers in each event. Age Category / Birth Years: Y14 - born 2008-2011 Senior - Competitors must be at least 13 years old on Jan. 1, 2022 of the competition unless the fencer is on the National Junior Point Standings.
