This tournament is in memory of Coach Anatolii Verulskii ( 1952 - 2011 ).
Anatolii was the Kyrgyz National Fencing Coach from 1977 - 2001, Kyrgyz Pentathlon Team Coach in 2004, Kuwait National Coach from 2005 - 2007, and the Royal Arts epee coach from 2008 - 2010. He had a masters degree in physical education from Kyrgyz University of Physical Education and had been coaching since 1971. Some of his achievements included:
-- Girne University Award for outstanding coaching, 2005 (copy included)
-- Pentathlon team earned silver medal for team relay, Olympic Games, Athens. 2004
-- Medal sweep (Gold, Silver, & Bronze) at the Muslim Women Games, Tehran, Iran 2001.
-- Earned Best Fencing Coach of the Year, Award 1988, 1989, 1991, 1994, and 1999
-- Gold Medals in team and individual competitions as well as a bronze medal at the West-Asian Games in Tehran, 1997.
-- Earned Master of Sports in fencing, USSR , 1971
-- USSR Junior Fencing Champion, 1971
-- Member of the USSR Fencing combined team, 1971
Before leaving for home Anatolii portrayed Juila's first coach in our film American Fencer. He passed before the premier at the Arnold Sports Film Festival.
Beyond his many accomplishments, he was an inspiration to many of our fencers and a true friend and fellow coach for us.
