TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
This is a National Qualifier for Youth 10, 12, Y14 and Junior events. Fencers must show proof they are COMPETITIVE members of the USFA. Junior Events are qualifiers for BOTH Junior Olympics and July Challenge (Summer Nationals).
    Birth Year Eligibility 2014-2015 season:
Youth 10: 2005-2008 Youth 12: 2003-2006 (or on Y10 NRPS list) Youth 14: 2001-2004 (or on Y12 NRPS list) Junior: (U20) 1996-2002 (or on Cadet NRPS list) Senior: 2002 or earlier (or on Junior NRPS) Veteran: Born 1976 or earlier
Special Notes about Birth Year vs National Points List to determine Eligibility:
SabreCave XXI uses birth year eligibility for the 2015-2016 season. Age eligibility for events is determined by BIRTH YEAR, not age at time of participation. If you are not eligible by BIRTH YEAR, but have NATIONAL POINTS for the age group younger than the event you want to enter, you are eligible to fence in that age group. For example, if you are born in 2001, you may only enter JUNIOR if you are on the Cadet National Points List for the same weapon.
Awards will be given to the top four finishers in each event.

Elastic strap at back of mask is required. Cords, lame, cuff, mask subject to standard electrical resistance checks. 800N FIE Grade Glove is required for all events!
SEEDING:
Seeding for Youth Events shall be based on the following order:
      1. Current national rolling point standings according to age group and weapon. This filters down the entire list, not just the top 32 as done in a NAC. 2. Letter ranking with year classification 3. Athletes with neither of the above are seeded on a random basis after the athletes who are seeded by the preceding factors.
Seeding for Junior Events will use National Junior ranking within classification, then classification/year.
Seeding for Senior Events will use National Senior ranking within classification, then classification/year.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
All events will be one round of pools with 100% promotion to direct eliminations. Pools of 6 or 7 (whenever possible; however, equal pools sizes should be used per SYC guidelines) with 100% of the fencers promoted to a DE tableau. No fence off for 3rd place. For Y10 and Veteran direct elimination bouts are 10 touch bouts (2 three minute periods with 1 minute break in between). During the 1 minute break, ONE person, designated by the fencer (a teammate, coach, or parent), may be on the strip with the fencer. For Y12, Y14, Junior, and Senior events, DE bouts are 15 touch bouts (3 three minute periods with a 1 minute break between). During the 1 minute breaks, ONE person, designated by the fencer (a teammate, coach, or parent), may be on the strip with the fencer.
