This is the qualifier for Y14, Div 2, Div 3 and Veterans for the Summer Nationals. This tournament is open only to members of the New Jersey Division.

BECAUSE JERSEY CITY WILL HAVE NUMEROUS STREET CLOSURES BECAUSE OF THE JERSEY CITY MARATHON AND HALF MARATHON, THE NEW JERSEY DIVISION SUMMER NATIONAL QUALIFER HAS BEEN CHANGED TO SUNDAY, MAY, 5, 2024. SAME CHECK-IN TIMES, SAME LOCATION.




This USA Fencing's New Jersey Division Summer Nationals Qualifier tournament is open only to members of the New Jersey Division's to qualify for USA Fencing's National Championship Tournament (also known as Summer Nationals) scheduled to take place in Columbus, Ohio, June 29-July 8, 2024.


Regular registration fees are in effect until Monday, April 1, 2024, 11:59 p.m.: $25 registration fee, $40 event fee.


Late registration begins Tuesday, April 2, 2024 and ends on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, 11:59 p.m. ($50 registration, $80 per event)


Please do not enter this tournament if you have already qualified for Summer Nationals. You can check if you have already qualified for Summer nationals by going to the Summer National Registration Page: https://member.usafencing.org/details/tournaments/8015 Click on "Qualified Members" and search the fencer's name, and it will list the events that the fencer has already qualified for.

It is very helpful if you include the name of the fencer and the event that they are fencing in at this tournament or wish to fence in. The Fencer's USA FENCING membership should also be current, and his/her division should be be the New Jersey Division -- please check usafencing.org.


Make sure your e-mail is correct in the FRED system - This is the only way we have to communicate with you. If you do not get a confirmation when you register, your e-mail is not correct. By registering in this tournament, you agree to share your registration information with USA Fencing.


This Qualifier Tournament will be held at Cobra Fencing Club located at 629 Grove St, Jersey City, NJ 07310, 4th Floor.

If interested in refereeing, email Doc Rolando at arolando@optonline.net. All referees must be USA Fencing credentialed. (USA Fencing Safesport trained and passed their background check if over the age of 18), and have signed USA Fencing's Referee Contract. Fencers may not work as referees if competing in this USA Fencing event.



CHECK-IN TIMES listed are close of check-in. Please arrive at least 1 hour to 90 minutes before the close of check-in to have your equipment inspected.

Preregistration closes on Tuesday April 30, at 11:59 p.m. THERE WILL BE NO WALK-INS.



This tournament is the qualification path for New Jersey Division fencers who wish to compete in the Y14 and/or Division II/ Division III Summer National events and who have not already qualified for Div 1A/2/3 through a ROC event for Div2/3 or SYC/RYC for Y14s.


Those who fence in the New Jersey Qualifier must be either residents of Essex, Morris, Hudson, Somerset, Hunterdon, Union, Bergen, Passaic, Sussex, Middlesex, Monmouth, Warren, Mercer, and Ocean Counties or be a member of a registered New Jersey Division Club located in the listed counties for the 2023-2024 fencing season.


Open to New Jersey Division Fencers with a C, D, E, or no classification. Fencers must be US citizens or permanent US residents to participate in this tournament and the Summer National Championships. Your USA Fencing membership must indicate New Jersey Division and that you represent the USA. Please check your registration online that you are a member of the NEW JERSEY DIVISION.



"Fencers must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents. Athletes that have represented another country another country in the last 3 years at FIE LEVEL competitions (Veteran/Senior/Junior and those athletes that represented another country in the Cadet World Championship) are not eligible to compete in a National Championship, unless the athlete has been officially approved by the FIE to represent the USA. A foreign fencer who is in the United States on a visa is NOT eligible to fence in any National Championships, individual or team, or associated division qualifying championships. One registration, one event with two outcomes, one for Div 2 and the other for Div 3. Veteran Fencers qualify for their Summer National events by participating in this tournament.


The Y14 Qualifier is an event for Y14 fencers who wish to qualify for the Y14 Summer National event and have not already done so through SYC/RYC events.



"Senior" refers to a USFA requirement that all fencers participating in open events must have birth years of 2010 and earlier.




You must have a current USA Fencing membership (Access or higher) to compete in this tournament. You must show your USA Fencing card or have proof that your membership payment has been made. A printed membership card can be obtained and printed out by logging into your USA Fencing profile.

For the Y14 events, because this is an age restricted event, if your birthdate is not verified on your USA Fencing membership card, you must bring proof of birthdate, for example, passport or birth certificate. Check your membership card, if it says "N" next to birthdate, it has not been verified and you should bring the listed verification.



Sanctioning and Format


This tournament is sanctioned by the New Jersey Division of the USA Fencing. The format for each event consists of a round of pools with 100% promoted to the direct elimination round. There is no fence-off for third place if there are at least 13 fencers in the event.


Check-in deadline times are subject to change. Please plan to arrive at least 60 minutes before each posted deadline for equipment check.


All fencers are required to comply with the USA Fencing standards for uniforms and equipment. Each fencer must bring at least two functional weapons, two body cords, and two mask cords for foil and sabre that meet USA Fencing requirements. Testing of weapons will be done on strip. There are no exceptions to the attire and equipment rules. Fencers should arrive at the venue dressed in whites as changing in the rest rooms WILL NOT be permitted.


Armorers will test the mask, lamé jacket or vest, gloves, (800 Newton glove mandatory for saber) and body and mask cords. All lame materials (mask, bib, jacket, vest, sabre glove or manchette) will be tested for conductivity. Items that have passed inspection will be specifically marked.

On time registration is $25 registration fee, $40 event fee and ends on Monday, April 1, 11:59 p.m.




Late registration starts on April 2, 2024.




Late registration fee is $50 registration fee, $80 event fee, and ends on April 30, 2024, 11:59 p.m.




THERE WILL BE NO REFUND OF THE REGISTRATION FEE. WE DO NOT REFUND ASKFRED.NET FEES. WE DO NOT REFUND STRIPE FEES.







THERE WILL BE NO WALK-INS.




There are no exceptions to this policy.








YOU ARE NOT CONSIDERED TO BE REGISTERED UNLESS YOU HAVE PAID THE EVENT FEE. REGISTER EARLY TO AVOID ISSUES. YOU MUST REGISTER ONLINE AND YOU MUST PAY ONLINE.

Fencers are considered registered when their names appear on the "Who's Preregistered?" list on the askFred listing for this tournament. You are not fully registered if your name appears as "incomplete" in this listing. It is your responsibility to ensure your registration.








There will be NO reminder emails sent to competitors that are registered without completed payments. You will be omitted from the tournament if you do not pay your tournament fees before the payment deadline. It is your responsibility to be aware of the registration deadlines.








Medals will be awarded for 1st through 3rd place for each event.








REFUNDS: Refunds will be issued on event fees only.








NO REFUNDS MAY BE REQUESTED AFTER Tuesday, April 9. Refunds can only be made in the form of a check. When requesting a refund, please indicate who is the fencer, who the check should be made out to and the address that it should be sent. Refund requests must be received by April 9, 2024. Refund checks are mailed 4 to 6 weeks after the tournament. Registration fees, stripe fees, and askfred.net fees will not be refunded. There will be no refunds for self-withdrawal. Please do not withdraw yourself from the tournament by yourself. It creates problems for the organizer if you do not inform me.







Food and water must be brought by the fencer. No food or water will be provided or sold at the tournament.








Individuals, including fencers, plus-ones, referees or others, should stay home and must not enter the fencing venue or competition if they have tested positive for, or are showing COVID-19 symptoms. Any person who has a temperature above levels typically prescribed by health or sports authorities (usually 100.3°F), and/or is displaying any Covid-19 symptoms or is unwell will not be admitted to the tournament location and should seek further medical attention.








There will be salutes in place of handshakes after every bout.




Fencers should refrain from screaming or shouting after touches.

Tuesday, April 2, 12 midnight. Begin late fee registration period




Tuesday, April 9, 11:59 p.m. End late registration period. NO ONE will be permitted to register for this tournament after this date, and there are no walk-ins. It is strongly suggested that you do not wait for the deadline day to register. Last day to request a refund (via email only to alicekee37@comcast.net) of tournament fees.




Sunday, April 14: Tournament Day.
