This is the 3rd Annual event honoring Danny Bukantz, Champion Fencer,Olympic referee, and the FINAL event in the 2008-09 NJFA Youth Cup Series. DOUBLE POINTS AWARDED TODAY. Cup prizes will be awarded today. The top female point-finisher in each series event will also receive an award (if not a top-3 finisher). Fantastic opportunity for young fencers to gain valuable tournament experience, whether pursuing Cup prizes or not. Great Summer Nationals Warm-up.
This event is sanctioned by the NJ Division of the USFA and ratings can be awarded, however youth events do not use the E1 or D1 classifications. This means that these events are âNRâ until they achieve a C1 level or higher.
Cup Info
All NJFA youth events held from September 2008 through June 2009 were eligible for Youth Cup prizes. Points were awarded for first 5 places in each event. Points were cumulative and prizes will be awarded today to the top 3 point finishers in each event, plus the top female finisher in each event (if not in top 3). Medals will also be awarded for each event today.
ENTRY
Fencers must meet USFA birth year requirements. 2008-09 USFA Birth Year Eligibility:
Y8 = 1999-2002 (non-USFA category)
Y10 = 1998-2001
Y12 = 1996-1999
Y14 = 1994-1997
A fencer may compete in the next higher age bracket if on the current National Points List, i.e. a fencer on the current Y12 points list may fence Y14. If your entry is rejected for age, contact us and we will handle your entry.
You must have valid USFA membership (except Y8 events) and you MUST show your USFA card or have proof that payment has been made. You may join at the door, however please arrive with a completed form or plan to come early to complete the necessary paperwork. Parent signature required. Please have separate checks made out to USFA or use your credit card for USFA payment.
All fencers must wear required fencing attire and bring at least 2 working weapons and 2 working body cords. NOTE: If you are fencing in a Y8/10 event - you must have a #2 or #0 blade, i.e. less than 32.5 inches long
FEES
Preregistered through FRED: $10 registration fee (nonrefundable)plus $25 per event - payment taken on-line or at the door
Walk-in (without preregistration): $10 registration fee plus $35 per event.
Payments made at the door must be in cash or check only. CREDIT CARDS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Refund requests (event fee only) must be received at least 2 days prior to the event.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Mixed events. One round of pools with 100% promotion to Direct Elimination rounds. Fence-off for third place. Medals awarded to 3rd place. Y8 event format will be announced after close of check-in (format depends on number of fencers and may be pools only or pools with direct elimination). Fencers are responsible for ensuring accuracy of all posted information and must report errors to the bout committee immediately. Fencer signature on pool score sheets and DE bout slip implies accuracy.
LOCATION
New Jersey Fencing Alliance is located at 50-58 Burnett Avenue (use 54 Burnett Avenue for Mapquest); Maplewood, NJ. NJFA is conveniently located near all major highways in NJ, NY, CT, and Pennsylvania NJFA is only 1.5 miles from the Maplewood Train Station. Only 25-30 minute direct NJ Transit train ride(Mid-Town Direct from Penn Station or from Hoboken).
NJFA is a state-of-the art 17,000 sf fencing salle offering 18 grounded metal strips with machines located in the middle as well as repeater lights at each end. FREE Wireless Internet service as well as FREE parking.
