DR. SAMUEL D'AMBOLA OPEN Dr. Samuel D'Ambola was Coach of Essex Catholic H.S. in Newark, NJ (1960-74). This was the dominant high school team in the country during the 1960's and the source of dozens of collegiate fencers and several Olympians, including Peter Westbrook. New Jersey Cups are awarded in each weapon/gender based on points accumulated in New Jersey Division Opens during the fencing season. The Cups are available to any fencer who competes in NJ Division-sanctioned Opens. One does not have to be a NJ Division member to earn points and win a Cup. NJ Cup Calculation Every NJ Division Open is part of the points list in that weapon/gender. Only a fencer's best six results become part of their point total. The points earned in a particular tournament depend on how many rated fencers a competitor finishes better than, where an A-rated fencer is worth seven points, a B-rated one is worth six points, a C-rated one is worth 5 points, etc. A fencer earns the point value of each fencer above whom they finish. A fencer earns more points for finishing higher in events with more, stronger competitors. ======================================================================================================================================================= FEES * As Fence Free * Regular fee entry period (Aug 12-Dec 10): $35/event - must register AND pay on-line.
