UCLA Okawa Open

Please join the UCLA Fencing team in honoring fencing legend Heizaburo Okawa in the 2016 Okawa Open! This year we will not be continuing the format in which fencers are awarded trophies based on participation and placement in all three weapons. While in previous years the message of the past tournaments has been breadth of skill, ability to adapt, and inclusion when it is easier to practice exclusion, this year we have chosen to adopt a framework which allows fencers to compete in their dominant weapons: in essence, highlighting depth of skill and dedication to their craft, traits which were also practiced by the UCLA Coach and three-weapon national champion for Japan. Fees will be paid at the door. Cash or checks made out to UC Regents. Competitors will be restricted to fencing TWO events maximum this year. Registration: $20 One Event: $30 Second Event: $10 Please plan to park in Lot 4; parking fees will be $12. Medals will be awarded to third place with a tie for third. Please note: pre-registration closes Thursday, March 31th.
