Welcome to the 2nd Annual Battle of the Bay! VENUE: The Fencing Center of San Jose 1290 S. First St. San Jose, CA 95110 EVENT SCHEDULE AND CHECK-IN INFORMATION: Please note that event times listed are the close of registration. Fencers are required to be checked in by this time. Fencers must check-in each day by close of registration of their event that day. Saturday: Senior Men's Epee – 9am Senior Women's Epee – 11:30am Senior Women's Foil – 1:30pm Sunday: Senior Men's Foil – 9am Senior Men's Saber – 9:30am Senior Women's Saber – 1pm AWARDS: Cash Prizes and Medals will be given to the top 8 fencers in each event. Minimum guaranteed cash prize amounts are: 1st - $100 2nd - $60 3rd (tie) - $40 5th - $30 6th - $25 7th - $20 8th - $15 SPONSORS: Alliance Fencing Equipment www.alliancefencingequipment.com The Fencing Post www.thefencingpost.com Victory Fencing Gear www.victoryfencinggear.com FEES: Tournament Registration Fee: $30 Event Fees: $15 One Time Fee for Non Bay Cup Season Pass Holders: $15 Late Registration Fee: $60 At-the-door Registration Fee: $90 Regular Fee Deadline: NOW through May 6th! Late Fee Period: May 7 – May 11, no pre-registrations will be allowed after May 11. Registration is not complete until payment is made. Payment must be made via askFRED. Registration fees are non-refundable. Through May 11, 100% of the event fee will be refunded if The Bay Cup is contacted with a refund request. After May 11, there will be no refunds of the event fee. Please register early to avoid complications. PARKING: Parking is available in front and in back of the building. Parking in the rear is accessible through the driveway on the right side of the building as you enter the property. Note that parking along this access driveway will not be available. Additional parking off-site is available on nearby side streets and in front of the Walmart Neighborhood Market in the Sun Garden Shopping Center south of E. Alma Ave (a short 4 – 5 minute walk). Please park away from the Market building and avoid the north wall where their associates park. RESTAURANTS/CONVENIENCE: Walmart Neighborhood Market is a full service grocery store and carries a full line of sport drinks, fruits and snacks. There are three fast-food restaurants within a one-block distance, Denny's, Wendy's and a Mexican taqueria. Also at the Sun Garden Shopping Center, on the street in front of Walmart, are a Jack in the Box and (hopefully open for business by the time of the Battle) a brand new Starbucks with a drive-through. There are several restaurants, fast food options, and another Starbucks at the Plant Shopping Center, 1.5 miles south on South 1st St. Downtown Willow Glen (Lincoln Ave between Willow St and Minnesota Ave) with a number of restaurants and shops (e.g., Aqui, Opa, The Table, and Stumpy’s!), is 2 miles west (an 8 – 10 minute drive). San Pedro Square Market, at North San Pedro and W. St. John in downtown San Jose, 2 miles north (a 10 – 15 minute drive) is a public market with a variety of upscale food-court options. WAIVER: Please bring a signed waiver with you to the tournament, or return a signed copy to us by email before the tournament. TOURNAMENT FORMAT: The standard event format used for Bay Cup tournaments is one round of pools with 100% promotion to a direct elimination table with no repechage. We will not be fencing off for 3rd. 11 grounded strips. BAY CUP SERIES AND POINTS: The Open Women’s events are not part of a Bay Cup series (different from last season), so no Bay Cup points will be awarded for these events. The Open Men’s events are not part of a Bay Cup series, so no Bay Cup points will be awarded for these events. ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION: Fencers competing must be current competitive members of USA Fencing or show proof of valid FIE license. These are senior age events; a fencer must have a birth year of 2001 or earlier or be on the National Junior point standings. UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS: All USA Fencing uniform requirements apply. This includes regulation fencing jacket and pants, underarm protector, knee socks, and a fencing glove that covers half the forearm. Women must wear chest protectors. Names are NOT required to be on the uniform. Masks with conductive bibs for foil are required, masks with visors are not allowed for saber, saber or foil masks with conductive material are not allowed for epee events. On the strip, referees will be checking for a second weapon and body cord, underarm protectors, and chest protectors.
