What Equipment Fencers Need

Equipment selection is critical for both safety and performance. Below is a list of the minimum required equipment that you should check and recheck for functionality:

  1. Mask (sewn‐in bib, must pass 12K punch test)
  2. Underarm protector
  3. Breast Protector (mandatory for women. Additional FIE padding is REQUIRED for Women's Foil and any Men's Foil fencer who chooses to wear a chest protector)
  4. Jacket (no holes, must close in back or opposite weapon arm)
  5. Lamé (Foil or Sabre)
  6. Knickers (no holes, must close in back or opposite weapon arm, must be overlapped by jacket by at least four inches. Must conform to RH/LH weapon arm of fencer)
  7. Glove (no holes except for body cord. Must cover approximately half the forearm. Sabre gloves must be FIE rated and 800N)
  8. Long socks (white, must reach the bottom of your knickers‐soccer socks work well)
  9. Fencing shoes or sneakers
  10. Minimum two working weapons (foil weapons must pass the weight test)

Armoury/weapons check: We will have a SafeSport armourer on site

Referees: SafeSport Certified, rated

Awards for top 4 in each category

Extra prize for gold medal winners

Parking: Feel free to drop the fencer at our door, and look for parking after. Ample free street parking nearby (do not block driveways, bus stops, or park in the Gerber parking lot).

Spectators: We will be enforcing that coaches-only (or one guardian per family) are allowed on the fencing floor (Our lounge can seat 30+)

Arrival: We suggest arriving at least 1 hr before the posted start time, aka, the "close of registration."  That means the fencer must be here and checked in at the bout committee table by the close of registration.

  1. Please do not bring chairs. Small collapsible seats are acceptable for fencers
  2. Please make sure your shoes are dry and clean before entering the fencing area
  3. A water fountain is available
  4. Concessions will be upstairs in the parents' lounge. Coffee, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase. Local restaurant options are close by.
