NJFA 2ND ANNUAL STEVE SOBEL YOUTH (Y8-Y14) - All weapons, gender mixed events. *First event of the 2007-08 NJFA Youth Cup Series - Double points awarded!! *This tournament is sanctioned by the NJ Division of the USFA and ratings can be awarded, however youth events do not use the E1 or D1 classifications. This means that these events are “NR” until they achieve a C1 level or higher. *Y8 is not a USFA category and is this event is not sanctioned by the NJ Division. It is for fun and practice, and participation is at parent discretion. This is a great opportunity for young fencers to gain valuable tournament experience. This is the first event in the 2007-08 NJFA Youth Cup Series. All youth events held from September 2007 through June 2008 are eligible for Youth Cup prizes. Cup points will be awarded for first 5 places in each event. Points will be cumulative and prizes will be awarded at the last tournament of the series. Over 200 different fencers from 45 clubs in 5 states participated in the 2006-07 Youth Cup series, which was sponsored by Blade Fencing, Absolute Fencing Gear, and Blue Gauntlet Fencing Gear. You must have valid USFA membership - you MUST show your USFA card or have proof that payment has been made. You may join at the door, however please arrive with a completed form (parent signature required) or plan to come early to complete the necessary paperwork. Please have separate checks made out to USFA or use your credit card for USFA payment. All fencers must wear required fencing attire and bring at least 2 working weapons and 2 working body cords. NOTE: If you are fencing in a Y10 event - you must have a #2 or #0 blade... Fencers must meet USFA birth year requirements. 2007-08 USFA Birth Year Eligibility: *Y8 = 1999-2001 Y10 = 1997-2000 Y12 = 1995-1998 Y14 = 1993-1996 FEES Preregistration $20 registration fee (nonrefundable) and $10 per event. PREREGISTRATION CLOSES FRIDAY, September 28, 2007, after which late fees apply. Registration fee is nonrefundable. Event fee is refundable if request received by midnight Friday, September 28, 2007. Late fees will be $20 registration fee and $20 per event Payments made at the door must be in cash or check only. CREDIT CARDS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. TOURNAMENT FORMAT Mixed events. One round of pools with 100% promotion to Direct Elimination rounds. Fence-off for third place. Medals will be awarded to top 5 places. LOCATION New Jersey Fencing Alliance is located at 50-58 Burnett Avenue (use 54 Burnett Avenue for Mapquest); Maplewood, NJ. NJFA is conveniently located near all major highways in NJ, NY, CT, and Pennsylvania NJFA is only 1.5 miles from the Maplewood Train Station (call ahead or e-mail no later than Friday, Sep 28 (973-224-3448) or e-mail c.delaney1@verizon.net and NJFA will provide free shuttle service from and to the train. NJFA is a state-of-the art 17,000 sf fencing salle; it offers 18 grounded metal strips with machines located in the middle as well as repeater lights at each end. NJFA additionally offers Internet service as well as 230 on-site FREE parking spaces.
