Introduction to tournaments for CBA youth class students and parents.
This tournament is for Center for Blade Arts Youth Class students that have not yet competed in a tournament. The goal is to give these athletes and parents an introduction to competition so that they feel comfortable competing in the club, locally, and beyond. Our friends in Competitive class or that have already been to competitions are welcome to come and support their teammates or referee. We will host future events and invite other clubs to participate too. This will be run using electric fencing gear. If your fencer does not yet have their own please talk to your coach so we can coordinate helping you purchase the correct gear or to make sure we have enough to loan to everyone.
Signing up for tournaments:
Step 1: Recommended: Get your athlete a USA Fencing Membership this is $29 and will allow you to fence in all locally run competitions. If you plan to compete regionally or nationally you can upgrade to a competitive membership later. Be sure to add Center for Blade Arts as your club, and Minnesota as your division. You will also need to provide age verification. You will need this to compete at most clubs. If you don't do it for this tournament you will need to do it later.
Step 2: Create an ASKfred.net profile and link it to your USA Fencing account.
Step 3: Register for your tournament.
Please note: coaches may divide or combine categories to maximize the learning opportunities for kids based on number of entries, skill, experience, age, etc.. We will do our best to give everyone a positive experience. Any changes to start-times will be communicated using ASKFRED.
Format: pools into pools, or pools to elimination depending on number of athletes.
Please show up 1 hour before your start time to warm-up and check in. Coaches will do a Q/A session on tournaments.
Families are encouraged to watch and be supportive. For questions talk to your coach at the club or use the email the organizer feature.
Cost: $40 at the door. This will support prizes and referees. If this is a barrier please let us know we want to have as many youth from class participate.
What's next:
Another local club is hosting a tournament that some of our youth can participate in. Consider signing up for the 2025 TCFC March Challenge to get some experience going to a tournament at another local club. https://www.askfred.net/tournaments/1243d0fb-f7ca-462c-9e47-a0e9c85468de
Those that feel ready for a bigger challenge can talk to their coach about if a regional event is a good fit. Check the tournament board at the club for more information!
