Age Definitions:

Y12 = birth year 2011 or later

Y14 = birth year 2009 or later

NOVICE Definition:

Participants registering for NOVICE events must have:

- been fencing for 2 years or less - starting no earlier than September 2021.

- have participated in no more than 6 advertised tournaments

Tournament Structure:

All times are close of registration, fencing to commence immediately afterward.

Fencers may compete in only one event per session.

Y12 and Y14 event DE's will be a 15 point bout of three 3 minute periods, with a 1 minute break between each or 8 hits (in sabre).

Y12 and 14 events will use #5 weapons. (TFF may have some of these available).

Proper foil masks and head-wires are required for foil events.

Weapons, wires and lames are not required to be legal (no testing will be done), but must be adequately functional to the referee’s discretion.

Events require a minimum of 4 fencers to be run.

Event registration will be combined and events will fence mixed, if there are not a minimum number of 6 fencers in each declared gender.

NOVICE and regular events will not be combined if there is insufficient registration.

Fees:

These tournaments are part of TFF’s Community Clubs’ training programs.

Fencers pay a $25 entry fee per event.

Fees are payable at the event by cash, cheque or e-Transfer to payment@tri-cityfoundation.com (preferred) - please indicate fencer's name with e-Transfer payment.

Tournament Rules:

Some of the items mentioned below may seem obvious, but since we are dealing with kids at a public venue, safety is utmost.

All fencers will be required to:

- wear a fencing jacket, fencing pants with long socks, plastron (1/2 jacket), chest protector (optional for M events), mask and a glove in good condition.

- wear decent, well fitting NON-MARKING runners.

- wear proper-sized, tucked-in t-shirts to insure that there isn't any skin showing between jacket edges and pants.

- use well-maintained weapons in good operating condition.

CFF Licenses:

All participating fencers, including NOVICE, will be required to have their CFF license (or foreign equivalent) for liability reasons.

It only says “Unsanctioned” on the NOVICE events as that was the only way to differentiate them on ASKFRED.

Licenses can be obtained at:  www.fencing.ca

Fencing Equipment:

All participants must have their own gear or borrowed from their club.

TFF will have very limited equipment to borrow during the event, so participants must come prepared with “back up” weapons, lames and wires.
