EPEE / SABER / FOIL Y6 - Y8 - Y10 - Y12 - Y14 - CDT - JNR - SNR - VET AAU / FLA Membership is required to compete Licensed by AAU / Sanctioned by FLA Join us for the 3rd AAU Doral Open 2023! This event is a qualifier (for the Y14 age group for foil and epee) for the 2023 ISF Gymnasiade in Rio de Janeiro this August The 2023 Rio de Janeiro OSF Gymansiade 2023 will host over 20,000 athletes from 70+ countries in 22 sports for this extraordinary, once in a life time event. You can find out more about ISF here: https://www.isfsports.org AAU / FLA will select up to 12 fencing athletes to represent us in this event FOIL - 2 Males / 2 Females EPEE - 2 Males / 2 Females SABER - 2 Males / 2 Females (To compete in the Gymnasiade this year you must be born in 2008, 2009 or 2010) This means that the top boy and the top girl of the Y14 foil and epee events will qualify to represent us at this event and compete against the teams of over 70 countries and have the opportunity to bring back the gold medal. If the winner of the Y14 event was born in 2011 the sport will automatically pass to the top fencer that was born in 2008, 2009 or 2010. We are allowed to send a second person per weapon per gender. The qualification for the second spot will be earned by the athletes who have the top ranking in the season achieved by participating in AAU licensed FLA sanctioned national Tournaments and earning national FLA points. This event will also award national FLA points that will help your national ranking to determine who will represent us in the Rio de Janeiro Gymnasiade 2023 (Y14) Additionally to the ranking points, AAU /FLA ratings will be awarded in this event, including youth ratings. The event will be held at the Doral Legacy Park in the beautiful Doral Florida This event is licensed by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and sanctioned by the Fencing League of America (FLA), All fencers must to hold a current AAU athlete membership. INITIAL SEEDING will be determined by FLA ratings. Check your current rating at http://www.fencingleagueofamerica.org Make a free FLA account using your AAU number and check your ratings and your FLA tournament history. FORMAT All events will use the AAU National Fencing format. (Pools-Direct Elimination) If possible, events will be separated by gender in enough fencers of each gender sign up. All events require a minimum of 5 participants to be rated All entrants should check-in at least 30 minutes prior to the start of their event. AWARDS (1) Gold, (1)Silver and (2) Bronze medals will be awarded to the top four finishers in each event. Additional awards will be given all the way to 8th place for the Y6, Y8 and Y10 categories. AGE GROUPS (Season Sep 2022 to Sep 2023) -6 & under/Y-6 (2016-2017) -8 & under/Y-8 (2014-2015) -10 & under/Y-10 (2012-2013) -12 & under/Y-12 (20010-2011) -14 & under/Y14 (2008-2009) -CADET (2006-2007) -JUNIOR (2003-2005) Athletes 12 and younger are allowed to participate in ONE age group above their own. Athletes 13 or older are allowed to participate above their age group all the way to SNR.
