UPDATE: FINAL CHECK IN TIMES POSTED BELOW Payment of entry fees are required to complete pre-registration. Any incomplete pre-registrations will be deleted on Dec 15, 2022 (Deadline). If there are fewer than 4 entries for an event, only ones who have completed their pre-registrations will become auto qualified. Refunds will be issued for cancelled events after the tournament. Southern California Division 2022-2023 Junior Olympics Qualifiers THIS IS FOR FENCERS THAT HAVE CHOSEN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AS THEIR DIVISION UNDER THEIR USFA MEMBERSHIP. Please make sure USFA has Southern California Division chosen under your USA Fencing Membership by Dec 15th, 2022. We will not allow fencers to participate if their membership does not show Southern California as their division on the USFA website. Location: Brentwood High School 100 S. Barrington Pl. Los Angeles, CA 90049 The Southern California Division Junior Olympic Qualifiers are only open to members of the SoCal Division. Fencers must also be registered as representing the USA and have either a passport, green card or permanent resident card. Fencers cannot have represented another country internationally in the last 3 years for Junior FIE tournaments. COVID-19 PROTOCOLS - Optional for fencers and spectators to wear facial masks. Waiver fees will be considered on a case by case basis. These are for fencers who have financial hardships. They will be required to help setup or take down equipment for the tournament to be considered waiver-eligible. Please contact for consideration. First 8 fencers to sign up to setup or take down equipment will have registration fees waived. The set up volunteers will need to help set up at 7am. Ratings changes on AskFRED are NOT official. Only ratings listed on the USA Fencing website will be acknowledged. Please Note: Only Rubber-soled shoes are allowed in the gymnasium. PLEASE respect the venue! Sunday December 18th, 2022 EVENTS - Close of Check In 8:30AM Junior (U20) Men's Epee 9:00AM Junior (U20) Men's Saber 9:30AM Junior (U20) Women's Epee 10:30AM Junior (U20) Men's Foil 12:30PM Cadet (U17) Men's Epee 1:30PM Cadet (U17) Women's Epee 2:30PM Cadet (U17) Men's Foil Events with fewer than 4 fencers signed up will be cancelled. In the event your event is cancelled, fencers will receive a full refund. CANCELLED EVENTS: Junior (U20) Women's Foil Cadet (U17) Women's Foil Junior (U20) Women's Saber Cadet (U17) Women's Saber Cadet (U17) Men's Saber If you are already pre-qualified to compete in the Junior Olympics by regional or national points, you do not have to compete in this tournament. There will be 8 grounded strips to accommodate the entries. USFA now requires the use of 800N Saber Gloves. Please ensure that all Saber fencers are now equipped with these gloves at this tournament otherwise you will not be able to fence. Also any foil fencers using chest protectors must have the additional padding. Referees will be checking this on strip. Upon check in - please bring your USFA Competitive Membership card showing expiration date AND Proof of US Citizenship (Such as copy of birth certificate or non-expired passport) or Permanent Residency. Fees: $45 per event. **REGULAR FEE REGISTRATION DEADLINE is December 15th, 2022! **REGISTRATION FEE AT THE DOOR IS $90. Pre-payment is required to complete registration. TO PAY BY ZELLE - send to please make a note: Name of fencer and event Qualifying and Eligibilty Criteria Fencers who qualify for junior, if age eligible, are auto qualified for cadet events. If you registered for both junior and cadet, then qualify at the junior event, thereby also qualifying for cadet, but decide on tournament day not to fence the cadet event, you will not receive a refund for the cadet entry fee. For complete qualifying and appeal information, please refer to the Athlete Handbook which can be downloaded from the USFA website. Fence offs to break ties will only be done if needed. 100% promotion, however if necessary due to tournament circumstances, only 80% may be promoted. Genders will not be combined. Ratings used will be those from the USA Fencing website as of Thursday December 16th, 2021. Any ratings earned after that or not reported to the national office will not be used. Seeding will be posted on the Friday prior to the event. Please check your seeding and email me,, with any corrections or changes. We have a lot of events to run in one day, so it is best to have corrections made prior to Thursday, December 16th, 2021. Rating changes on AskFRED are not official. USFA Membership - USFA rules will be enforced. All fencers must be current members of the USFA . Proof of USFA membership is either an unexpired membership card, an email from the USFA or listing on the USFA website. Membership forms will be available at the tournament or may be downloaded from the USFA website however USFA is charging $10 extra for paper entry forms. To speed up the process, it will be better to renew membership online at If proof of membership is unavailable fencers will be required to submit a new membership application form with payment at the door. No exceptions. Weapons are checked (weights and shims) during pools and direct eliminations for all events.
