Location: Brentwood School 100 S Barrington Pl, Los Angeles, CA 90049 Parking Entrance is south of the front of the school and the end of the block, just south of Chayote street. There will be a Guard post, which will give you directions to park. The League will hire referees and schedule fencing strips based on numbers of pre-registered fencers. Your early registration helps the League plan timely events. HIGH SCHOOL - GRADES 9 to 12 ** MIDDLE SCHOOL - GRADES 6 to 8 ALL FENCERS MUST BRING SCHOOL ID and proof of USFA Competitive or USFA Access membership. If your school does not issue a school ID, please bring proof of school enrollment, i.e. registration, letter from school stating grade, etc. **Only High School events are recognized by the USFA. High School Fencers will be eligible to earn USA Fencing classifications (ratings). By entering this tournament, we will be following the codes of conduct set by USA Fencing. Please carefully read the codes of conduct for spectators, coaches, and members. The Southern California Scholastic League follows the SafeSport and Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies as approved by the U.S. Center for SafeSport. REGISTRATION: When REGISTERING, please list your SCHOOL NAME as your PRIMARY CLUB on for this tournament. (Under your separate USFA membership, you may still keep your Fencing Club as your Primary Club) THERE WILL BE NO LATE REGISTRATION and NO SIGN UPS ON THE DAY OF THE TOURNAMENT. PAYMENT at the Tournament: Cash, Cards & Checks accepted. Checks payable to: Southern California Scholastic Fencing League (SCSFL) EVENT FORMAT: There will be one round of pools with 100% advancing to direct elimination in all individual competitions. The direct elimination bouts will be fifteen touch bouts, with the appropriate breaks determined by which weapon is being fenced. EQUIPMENT: Uniform: A full fencing Jacket (FIE not required), a plastron (underarm protector), a glove, and fencing knickers. Socks must cover all the leg not covered by the knickers. Women's equipment must include breast protectors made of metal or rigid material inside the jacket. The appropriate glove, lame’ and mask for the weapon being fenced are required. Please wear shoes with non-marking or white soles to all competitions. Foil Mask: All foil fencers must have a conductive foil bib on their mask and use a mask cord. Foil Chest Protector: USFA Foil "Padded" chest guards will be enforced and checked. Material must have the SEMI technical mark at the center of the upper edge, per USA Fencing Rules of Competition, section m.25.4(c) Sabre: All sabre fencers must use a USA Fencing approved 800N glove. Leon Paul brand MASK owners: If you have the Leon Paul "X-Change" mask with the plastic disk in back, please note that a secondary neck strap is now REQUIRED for all USA Fencing domestic events. The secondary strap requirement will be enforced and non-conforming equipment will be disallowed. (Note: the L.P. X-Change mask model with the more traditional tongue may be worn without the secondary strap.) Please consult your coach or the armorer with any questions. INSPECTIONS: Masks and gloves will be inspected by the armorer. Weapons will be tested on the strip. You will not be allowed to fence with weapons that do not conform to USFA standards. TEAM EVENT QUALIFICATION: All Varsity High School Fencers must fence in either/or both the #1 or #2 Individual Events in order to be considered for a High School Varsity "A" Team for the SoCal Scholastic League Team Tournament. All fencers must fence in at least one SoCal Scholastic League individual event or Novice event to qualify to fence in a Team Event. INDIVIDUAL EVENTS – MEDAL AWARDS: Cumulative Points are tabulated from the final results in Individual Events #1 and #2 for the season. Medals will be awarded through 8th place, at the conclusion of the #2 Individual Events in Foil, Epee and Sabre. *********************************************************************************** COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS for the 2022-23 SEASON: As of: January 2023 MASKS OPTIONAL: The use of cloth face covering is now optional. SOCIAL DISTANCING: We encourage social distancing while in the venue. AVOID HANDSHAKES: Athletes should salute at the conclusion of a bout, and refrain from shaking hands with each other, the referee and coaches. STAYING HOME WHEN APPROPRIATE: If you are feeling unwell, please stay home. If you have tested positive for COVID-19, are showing COVID-19 symptoms. If you have had a close contact with a person who has tested positive for or who has symptoms of COVID-19.
