FRED Announces the The Grand Open 9th Annual Grand Open - Open Foil and Epee. Women's Foil and Epee plus Veterans Events. New Sharks and Minnows format (for Mixed/Women's events)!!! ------------------ Important Info: ------------------- Tournament: The Grand Open Date(s): 02/07/2009 - 02/08/2009 Location: Northwest Fencing Center Event | Date | Registration Closes Senior Women's Epee | Sat 2/07 | 10:00 AM Senior Women's Foil | Sun 2/08 | 10:00 AM Senior Mixed Epee | Sun 2/08 | 12:00 PM Senior Mixed Foil | Sat 2/07 | 12:00 PM Vet Combined Mixed Epee | Sat 2/07 | 3:00 PM Vet Combined Mixed Foil | Sun 2/08 | 3:00 PM --- Format Details --- 1st round of pools, seeded normally. 100% promotion from the 1st round. The top 6-7 after the 1st round of pools are placed into a "Shark" pool. 2nd round of pools seeded based on the results of the 1st round, with the "sharks" removed. DEs are a tableau of 12/16/24, depending on event size. "Sharks" are guaranteed the top 1-7 seeds in the DE table. The remaining spots are filled by fencers from the "minnows" pools. This format is allowed by the USFA and the tournament will be sanctioned -- ratings will be given. Advantages: More fencing for everybody! Top fencers get more quality bouts.
