Cherokee Fencing Club and North Georgia Fencing Center Present. . . Michael Marx and Carlos Bruno in Atlanta Foil and Epee Clinic! Friday, March 12 – Sunday, March 14 North Georgia Fencing Center 811 Brogdon Road (Behind 805), Suwanee Georgia CFC and NGFC will be hosting a foil and epee clinic featuring Five time Olympian and fencing hall of fame member Michael Marx and accomplished coach, fencer, and home town favorite Carlos Bruno, and two time national champion/five time national team champion Ariel DeSmet. The clinic will be held March 12,13,14 at the North Georgia Fencing Center. Michael Marx earned his Master of Arms degree in Poland in 1992, and is a staff member of the USFA Coaches College, coaching upper level classes, writing manuals and teaching. A five-time Olympic team member in 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, and 1996, Michael is the only man in the last 50 years to make the U.S. Olympic team in two weapons: epee and foil. Michael has been enshrined in the U.S. Fencing Hall of Fame, and is a five-time USOC Athlete of the Year. In other international honors, Michael earned the silver medal at the World University Games in 1985, the highest finish ever for a U.S. team member, and the bronze medal in the 1987 Pan American Games. At the national level, Michael earned a record eight U.S. national championships in foil in 1977, 1979, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1990 and 1993. He served as vice president of the U.S. Fencing Association from 1992 to 1996 and has served as the national women's epee coach. Michael’s students have earned over 50 national titles, and have competed in the last four Olympic teams in both epee and foil. Michael was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2003, the first fencer to be so honored. Carlos Bruno is nationally ranked in Men's Epee and a two-time Division 1 Men's Epee finalist. He has been fencing for over 14 years and has been coaching for over 7 years. Carlos coaches the Pre-Competitive, Pre-Collegiate and Competitive programs and leads the Evening Program's epee class. A former member of The Atlanta Fencers Club staff, and the original founder of what later became the Cherokee Fencing Club, Carlos helped to promote the sport of fencing throughout the Metro Atlanta area. Carlos not only brings enthusiasm, intensity, and the benefit of over a decade of competitive fencing to this clinic. But also the experience of his former and current coaches; Ron Miller (UNC), Michael Marx (NWFC), and Gene Gettler (AFC). Ariel DeSmet Ariel is a two-time individual national champion and a five-time team national champion. He has been a member of Cadet, Junior and Senior U.S. World Teams. He is currently nationally ranked in Men's Foil. Pricing: Individual rate: $180.00 per student Team rate: $165.00 per student (minimum group of four) Coaches rate: $125.00 (must bring student in order to qualify student) Daily rate : $100.00 The schedule of events over the course of the clinic will include: Friday 3/12 – 6:00PM to 9:00PM. Open fencing and “Meet and Greet”. There will be a coaches meeting during this three hour window in order to discuss the weekends lesson themes.
