Ziggy's Open Book Finals

FRED Announces our Mascot Ziggy’s Open Book Finals - Open Foil and Epee Mixed Senior Competition. Pre-registered: $25 first event and $15 additional event. At the door: $35 first event and $25 additional event. It’s the end of the semester and to celebrate the graduation of some of our fencers and recognize our new fencers, our Mascot Ziggy (the stuffed sheep) insists on hosting the “Open Book Finals” Foil and Epée open competitions… Why? Because as we all know, open book tests are just harder… but usually more fun. This is a USFA sanctioned event, and all USFA rules will be followed for the competition. Appropriate attire is required (Jacket, Kickers, Mask, Plastron, Socks and glove all in good repair and working order). IMPORTANT: New Rules in effect as of April 1st!!! USFA rule changes are in effect (some interesting, some not so much) make sure that you check them out at the FOC web page before you fence! http://www.fencingofficials.org/blog/2014/03/april-2014-rulebook-now-available/ Epee fencers will NOT be allowed to use a foil mask with a conductive bib in epee, as this can block valid touches to that area of the bib. Masks, weapons and body cords will be tested at check-in. Please ensure that each competitor has two working body cords (Foil will need two working mask cords as well), and that no single individual brings more than 5 cords to the armorers table to be tested at a time. Zink Hall has men's and women's locker rooms with shower facilities. Local foods available are Subway, Dominos Pizza, The Commonplace Coffeehouse and Roastery (great Coffee), and Arbys are all within walking distance. Additionally, the club will be selling snacks, water and sports drinks. PLEASE NOTE!!!! We are still looking for qualified referees with their (mandatory) USA Fencing Professional” membership for this tournament.
