2011 Maine Games Fencing Championships Saturday, June 25, 2011 UMA Bangor/UCB - Gym & Fitness Center The Maine Games Fencing Championships is the official State Games for fencing. Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Hammond Street. Proceed to the first set of traffic lights (you will be facing the runway at Bangor International Airport). Turn right onto Maine Avenue. Travel approximately 7/10 of a mile. Turn right onto University Drive and onto the Bangor campus. I-95 South: If traveling from the north on I-95, take exit 183 (Hammond Street/Airport). Travel approximately 7/10 of a mile. Turn right onto University Drive and onto the Bangor campus. REGISTRATION ENTRY FEES: Events: $20 for 1st event. $10 each for additional events. Walk-in registrations at door will be accepted. On-site registration will be held at the MGFC event, so please arrive early to fill out forms. MAINE GAMES ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: All Maine Games State Fencing Championship athletes may be Maine or New Hampshire residents, OR a student attending a Maine school, OR an active member of the United States Military stationed in Maine to be eligible for Maine Games awards, or qualification for the State Games of America. All Maine Games athletes are responsible for their own insurance. A Maine Games Waiver Form must be signed to participate. USFA Membership is not required for participation in these events, but USFA classifications may only be given if all fencers are members. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE NORTHEAST DIVISION USFA: The Northeast Division is sanctioning the fencing tournament associated with the Maine State Games being held on Saturday, June 25, 2011. USFA membership is not required, but for ratings to be given in any event, all the participants in that event must be members of the USFA (a one day membership can be bought), and must operate under USFA guidelines, which include age categories, seeding, and rules. This is not a Northeast Division tournament, but a Maine State Games tournament, and any questions and issues related to this tournament should be directed to them, and all proceeds will go to them. Insurance for this event will be through either Maine State Games, or through the Downeast School of Fencing, not the Northeast Division. John Krauss will be the official in charge. Eligibility (as per USFA Rules): Open Events - Must be born 1997 or earlier. In any tournament where children can fence with adults, the fencer must be 13 by January 1 of the competition season (August - July). All classifications may participate. Unclassified/Unrated = Unrated or unclassified fencers may participate. Mixed = Men & Women combined. Electric gear is required for all USFA Events. Novice/Non-electic - Must be unclassified and fencing less than 2 years. Novice events are held non-electrically with judging. Novice, non-electric are Non-USFA practice tournament events, and not eligible for classificatons. FORMAT OF COMPETITION: USFA official rules and standards for safety will be followed. All events will be held with electric equipment. Event commissioners and the bout committee have the final determination on all matters regarding competition. The bout committee reserves the right to combine events if necessary based on the number of entries. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO ATHLETES AND SPECTATORS: No food or drink will be allowed in the gymnasium fencing area. Water bottles are allowed. All athletes and spectators in the gymnasium fencing area are required to wear clean athletic footwear. No sheet shoes will be allowed for the preservation of the gym floor. AWARDS Will be presented to the top three finishers in each event (Maine Games gold, silver, bronze) at the conclusion of each competition.
