To take advantage of these rates, please mention the Duel in the Desert when making your reservation. Please be aware that New Year’s is usually a sell out for Las Vegas hotel rooms – book early. Please keep in mind that the Tropicana has also given us an incredible deal on the fencing venue but we are required to fill our room block. If you want to support the Duel and wish to see it continue, please stay at the Tropicana and mention Duel in the Desert when you make your reservation. For additional encouragement we have implemented the following policy: All fencers staying at the Tropicana will receive a free drink ticket good for the Saturday Night Fights. EVENT FEES: Pre-payment is required for pre-registration. Now through midnight December 9th - registration is $50.00 + $70.00 per event. Triple fees at the door – registration $150.00 + $210.00 per event. To help our tournament run more smoothly, pre-registration is strongly encouraged. SIGNED WAIVER REQUIRED All fencers must sign a waiver/informed consent form. Those fencers under the age of 18 must have a parent or LEGAL guardian sign the form. No one will be allowed to fence without this completed form. USFA RULES APPLY. Current competitive membership of the USFA required (membership will be available at the venue). You must be prepared to show proof of USFA membership or at the door, fill out a membership form and pay $60 - credit card or separate check - NO CASH. Persons under the age of 18 MUST have a parent's signature on this form. PRE-REGISTRATION INFORMATION: PRE-PAYMENT is required for pre-registration. Fencers may pre-register on line with a credit card on AskFred.net. If you pre-register on askFRED, please print off the WAIVER, which is found at http://www.duelinthedesert.com/DuelWaiver.pdf, and bring the signed waiver with you to check-in at Duel. You may also pre-register by mail by printing a copy of the 2009 Duel in the Desert Entry Form at http://www.duelinthedesert.com/DuelPacket.pdf and mailing the signed registration form and waiver, along with a check made payable to Southern Nevada Fencing to: DITD – c/o Southern NV Fencing – 284 East Lake Mead Parkway, #272 – Henderson, NV 89015 - Fax: 702.254.5255 . There will be a $25.00 charge on all returned checks. Email Confirmations will be sent. If you prefer to receive a confirmation by mail please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with mail in registration, or a preferred email address if different from the one on askFRED. If you have difficulty with your pre-registration, please email the organizers and we will take care of it for you. AGE CATEGORIES: Entry in all events is open to all current USFA competitive members or foreign fencers holding a current FIE card, provided they have a birth year of 1995 or earlier for the 2008-2009 season or are on the Junior points list in the weapon they wish to compete. EQUIPMENT POLICIES: All events will be electric. Equipment checks will consist of masks, body cords and lamés. Sabre cuffs and underarm protectors are REQUIRED. TOURNAMENT FORMAT: Men's/Women's Events: One round of pools, 5-touch bouts with a 3-minute time limit. 100% advancing to DE of 15 touches, no repêchage, no fence off for 3rd. Veteran Events: One round of pools, 5-touch bouts with a 3-minute time limit. 100% advancing to DE of 10 touches, no repêchage, no fence off for 3rd. Initial seeding, seeding after pools and final placements will be posted in the venue. Fencers are responsible for verifying the posted lists, and signing their pool and DE sheets. Initial seeding will be based on Senior national point standings in Men's and Women's events and Veteran Combined national point standings after December NAC, followed by classification and year. SATURDAY NIGHT: Saturday night exhibition bout formats will be announced that evening. Formal attire optional. Classification Changes: Must be submitted by Tuesday, December 9, 2008 to Evan at evan@mcclainranes.com, please include your name, weapon earning the new classification, date, location of the tournament and website where results can be found. Classifications earned at the December NAC will be updated accordingly. Refund Policy: For refund of event fee(s), withdrawals must be submitted in writing to Evan at evan@mcclainranes.com by the Tuesday, December 9, 2008. Registration fees are nonrefundable.
