NEW JERSEY FENCING ALLIANCE YOUTH CUP SERIES OCTOBER 13, 2013 This is the second event in the prestigious Youth Cup Series for the 2013-14 season. This competition is for all weapons in the Y-8 to Y-14 age categories. DOOR PRIZE KINDLE FIRE HD TABLET All fencers who are registered and paid by October 6th will receive one entry for each event. Drawing will be held at 1:15 pm on October 13th. VENUE NEW JERSEY FENCING ALLIANCE, 54 Burnett Ave, Maplewood, New Jersey, 07040 NJFA is one of the largest fully equipped state-of-the-art fencing salles in the country. This 17,500 sf venue offers 19 grounded official USFA fencing strips with center scoring boxes with repeater lights at each end, men’s and women’s locker rooms, FREE Wireless Internet service, live results streaming of tournament information, FREE parking, and on-site fully equipped store. Overhead monitors display live results and tournament information. Live results will be streaming at live.njfencingalliance.com. NJFA’s Armory will open at 7 am for equipment check and will be available to provide personal armoring throughout the tournament. EVENTS Events initially will have limited entries (limits may be adjusted depending on the number of sign-ins after the regular fee entry period). If the event is full, e-mail the organizer at blairstar48@aol.com to be placed on our waiting list. Wait-listed fencers will be subject to the fee at the time of wait listed. Ratings can be awarded, however youth events do not use the E1 or D1 classifications. This means that these events are Not Rated until they achieve a C1 level or higher. If you are paying with an “NJFA Free Entry Coupon” received from a prior event, e-mail the organizer at blairstar48@aol.com. All unpaid entries will be removed effective October 9, 2013 at 11:59 pm. Re-entry will be subject to late fees and is subject to space availability. Walk-in competitors will be subject to space availability. Walk-in fees will be charged for any unsecured entries. Regular fee period closes October 7, 2013 11:59 pm. $35 per event. Late fee period October 8-11, 2013 11:59 pm (entry subject to space): $45 per event. Walk-in (October 12 – 13, 2013 (subject to space): $60 per event. Payments made at the door must be in cash or check only payable to "NJFA”. No credit cards taken at door. REFUNDS Refund requests must be submitted to blairstar48@aol.com and will only be honored if received prior to October 6, 2013 at 11:59 pm. There will be no exceptions to this policy. Any refunds will be net of surcharges from Ask Fred. YOUTH CUP SERIES The NJFA Youth Cup Series is comprised of 9 tournaments. Each tournament is a standalone event. The top 8 finishers in the Y8 events will receive awards. The top three finishers in the Y-10, Y-12 & Y-14 events will receive awards. 9/16/13, 10/13/13, 11/3/13, 11/22-24/14 1/12/14, 2/9/14, 3/9/14, 4/13/14, and 5/31/14. NJFA Series Cup Points are awarded to the top 8 finishers in each event: 1st place will receive 40 points 2nd place 35 points Points will decrease 5 points per position through 8th place which will receive 5 points. At the final event of the season, the top 3 fencers in each weapon / age category who have accumulated the most NJFA YOUTH CUP SERIES points will be awarded the coveted NJFA Youth Cup Series Trophy and prizes. Should there be a tie in the final point standings; the fencer with the highest finish in the final event will be declared the winner. Fencers must present their membership card (or proof of membership payment) or FIE license at registration / check-in. Y8/Y10 fencers must fence with #0 or #2 blades (blades cannot be longer than 32 inches). The fencer’s name is NOT required to be displayed on their uniform for this event. Full USFA regulation uniform required. Fencer must have at least two working weapons, two body cords and two head cords. Foil mask with conductive bib is required. Fencing will commence shortly after the close of check-in. Fencers should arrive at least 1 hour prior to close of check-in time. This should provide you with ample time to have their equipment checked and properly warm-up. NJFA opens at 7:00 am. EQUIPMENT CHECK Equipment check will be open at 7 am. Fencers must present to the armorer for testing their mask, lame jacket, gloves (saber), body cords and head cords. Items passing inspection will be specially marked. Masks that do not pass the 12-kg punch test will be impounded or given a visible mark to signify that the mask is "not approved for use." An armorer will be available to assist with equipment problems during the tournament. Events that are posted as mixed will be gender-separated if at least 6 fencers of either gender enter the event. One round of pools with 100% promotion to the Direct Elimination rounds. There will be No fence-off for third place. Fencers are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all posted information and must report errors to the bout committee immediately. This includes club affiliation, division, classification, date of birth, gender, and the spelling of your name. Fencers should verify all scores prior to leaving the strip. Errors in posted pool results must be reported to the BC immediately (within 5 minutes). Once the DE round starts and the tableau is posted, the pool results are final and no adjustments will be allowed. The fencer’s signature on the pool sheet or DE slip implies accuracy and acceptance. Seeding: Seeding is based initially on the fencers Current National Youth Ranking according to age group and weapon, then their letter ranking with the year of classification, then fencers with neither points nor classification. Fencers with equal classifications will be randomized within each classification. Only ratings and points standings listed on the USFA website will be used. Direct Elimination Tableau shall be generated from the results of the preliminary pool round. Y 10 DE format - Y10 direct elimination bouts will be for 10 touches or will end when two periods of three minutes, with a one-minute rest between each period, have passed. The first period ends either at the expiration of three minutes or when 5 touches are scored, whichever comes first. During the 1-minute break, ONE PERSON designated by the fencer (team-mate, coach, or parent) may be on the strip with the fencer. Y 12 & Y14 DE format - direct elimination bouts will be for 15 touches or will end when 3 periods of three minutes, with a one-minute rest between each period have passed. During the 1-minute break, ONE PERSON designated by the fencer (team-mate, coach, or parent) may be on the strip with the fencer. Medals will be awarded to the Top 8 Fencers in all Y-8 events and to the Top 3 Fencers in the Y-10, Y12, & Y 14 events. There are no fence-offs for third place. Withdrawal: Withdrawal during pools: A fencer who withdraws or who is excluded is scratched from the pool, and his results are annulled as if he had not competed. Withdrawal during DE: When, for whatever reason, a fencer cannot fence or cannot complete his bout his opponent will be declared the winner of that bout.
