This is our second stab at Orlando Fencing Sports Center's whimsical Cruel Duel one touch epee tournament. It's a one touch format with some very cruel twists. Despite the name, it's lots of fun.
Back by popular demand, this is the second Orlando Cruel Duel one touch epee tournament. The format will be similar to last time, with a few very minor improvements (see details below). This is a fun, mixed event, for all ages and skill levels. Awards go to the top three finishers,
Parking is available in front of and behind the venue.
Payment is made at the venue, but pre-registration is encouraged to allow us to gauge participation and to hold your place, if the 21 participant limit is reached.
Format details:
The tournament format is similar to the one touch epee fencing format in the Olympic Pentathlon event, but with some very cruel differences:
- Bouts are limited to 30 seconds, with those going to time ending in double defeat*
- Double touch is double defeat*
- The Olympic ladder DE format is replaced with Cruel Duel challenge ladder DE format, in which the lowest seeded fencers may challenge any fencer in their ladder, and replace that fencer in the ladder, if successful
Since the one touch format is inherently quick, after the podium bouts and awards, the floor will be opened up for open fencing for all competitors, for as long as they care to fence. Come in and enjoy a quick, fun tournament and an afternoon of good fencing!
*The double defeat rules do not apply to the two final bouts for podium positions, Double touches are ignored and if the bout goes to time, after the halt, fencing continues, but audience members are invited (and encouraged) to mock, jeer, and generally belittle the combatants for their passivity, and contribute to the chaos, adding pressure to end the bouts.
