Certified Referee Seminar – USA Fencing Referee /w Patrick Webster

Welcome to Refereeing Fencing. This seminar meets one of the requirements for becoming a certified referee for USA Fencing.

Requirements to become a referee:

Participate in a Certified Referee Seminar (This event)

Be observed by a Certified Referee Observer/Instructor and get feedback along with initial rating recommendation (For in person attendees, this is a second day activity)

Pass the online exams with scores of 90% or better

For individuals over the age of 18 – Update your membership to “Check-Ed” which triggers the required background check

For individuals over the age of 18 – Take additional Safe Sport required training through the US Fencing referee portal

This is a full-day seminar wherein we will cover the rules of fencing and the application of those rules in context. We will be reviewing the equipment of fencing, controlled elements and safety features. There will be a discussion about actions and interpretation of actions. There will be demonstrations to illustrate application of rules and the calling of actions, controlling the field of play and how to manage spectators, athletes, coaches and yourself during stressful moments.

Seminar Date: Saturday February 28, 2026

Time: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM ET with periodic breaks

In-Person at Woodling Gym Meeting Room 2451 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44115 and,

On-line format with Zoom Links to be sent out to registered participants

In person registration is $75, while online registration is $60.
