By the end of this 3-weapon, four-hour armory clinic you should be able to troubleshoot weapon and cord issues and make simple repairs. Tool sets available for purchase. Scholarships available.
Join Gulf Coast Division Armorer Susie Grace and longtime armorer James Smith for this four-hour, 3-weapon armory clinic. James and Susie will cover the basics of fencing armory - how the weapon and cords work, how to diagnose issues, and how to make simple repairs.
Armorers-in-training may bring their own tools or purchase a kit from us. Price TBD.
We will NOT be covering rewiring weapons, nor scoring equipment repair and maintenance. Contact Susie for private sessions on those topics.
Format:
2:00-3:30 - Epee and foil construction, body cord construction, weapon checking, troubleshooting
3:30-4:00 - Break (snacks provided)
4:00-6:00 - Hands-on practice: bring your body cords, tips to be cleaned out, etc.
Why should you learn armory?
- Fencers: don't lose points due to bad gear; be able to keep fencing even when a tournament doesn't have an armorer
- Fencers and fencing parents: save money by doing your own repairs
- Coaches: troubleshoot broken club equipment faster without bothering your armorer
- Referees: spot problems and get everyone fencing again sooner
This clinic is jointly sponsored by the Gulf Coast Division and Houston Sword Sports. Limited full and partial scholarships are available - please email usafencinggulfcoast@gmail.com and explain why you'd like to participate and how GCD can support you.
Payment info: You can pay at the door or through FRED. Registration is $50. Armory kits will be purchasable day-of with cash or card.
Walk-in registrations will be subject to a $20 late fee.
Refund requests are handled at the discretion of the tournament organizer. Contact the organizer directly for refund inquiries.
