The Fencing Club at USF is hosting its first ever referee clinic and certification seminar. $90/person before 03/22/2025. See more info for details.

The clinic will cover all components needed to know to become and grow as a USFA Fencing Referee. The seminar is also immensely helpful for fencers, parents, and coaches alike to align on the discussion of best application practices, interpretations, and communication of fencing rules.


The certified referee instructor that will lead the clinic is the head coach of Vassar College Fencing, Bruce Gillman. Coach Gillman is a top official on the national, collegiate, and scholastic levels, who has worked NCAA and ECAC Championships. Coach Gillman is a member of the United States Fencing Association and the United States Fencing Coaches Association.


SCHEDULE: This is a two day clinic, with the seminar/lecture on the first day and exam that takes place on the second day.


03/29/2024

The referee clinic/lecture, will start at 1:30 pm and last to approximately at 8:30 pm. The clinic will take place in Hillsborough Room (MSC 2709).

03/30/2024

Exam that will start at 10:30 am and end approximately at 5 pm. The certification seminar will take place in the Oak Room (MSC 3707). We will be hosting a sanctioned tournament, with an unrated event for foil, saber, and epee that serves as the practical exam. It you are interested in signing up for that instead of the clinic, it can be linked here. If you pay for the clinic, please do not pay for the tournament.


PAYMENT: $90/person, before 03/22/2025. After that date the price is $120/person. Payments will be collected through Askfred(preferred), or in person via Venmo, Zelle, check, or cash. Failure to preregister before the event will result in the walk in policy fee.


WALK-IN POLICY: If you did not preregister before Friday 03/28, you will be charged $160/person.

PARKING: USF has a policy that appropriate parking passes are required 24/7. Please purchase a "DAILY VISITOR ONLINE PERMIT" through the following website AND park in "D" designated parking spaces. The Fencing Club at USF is not responsible for any parking tickets issued during the event.
