This camp will focus on:

  1. Technical and Tactical Training: Elevate your fencing skills through focused drills and personalized coaching.
  2. Footwork and Conditioning: Build the physical foundation necessary for peak performance.
  3. Mental Preparation: Learn strategies for staying focused, managing competition pressure, and maintaining a winning mindset.
  4. Competitive Simulations: Engage in practice bouts and scenarios to refine your tactics and decision-making under pressure.


ABOUT THE COACHES:


Coach Maureen Griffin was the US Fencing National Junior and Cadet Women's Epee Coach from 2009-2013. She qualified in Foil for Canada to the 1982 Jr and Cadet world championships. She is also a seven time Canadian National Team member in women's epee, 11 time Medalist in women's epee at US NAC events and Canadian Cup competitions, and 5 time gold medalist in Canadian National Epee Team Championships. Griffin is also a Bronze Medalist 1995 Western Hemisphere Olympic Zonal Qualifier.


Coach Susan Jennings has been a multiple medalist at the National level, part of the RFC Women’s Foil team that won 11 consecutive National Team Championships, a bronze medalist at the Pan American Games, World Championship team member, and Junior Olympic Champion. While studying and fencing at Columbia, she earned multiple All-American titles and had a 93% win rate in the Ivy League, earning her a place in the Columbia Fencing Hall of Fame. She honed her mentorship and tactical skills as an assistant coach under Simon and Irene Gershon at The New York Fencers Club, later building a youth program at the Fencing Academy of Nevada, where she worked alongside Olympic coach Yves Auriol. Most recently, Susan was Associate Head Coach for Cornell Women’s Fencing, where her guidance helped lead the team to a flawless 32-0 season.


Coach Michael Pederson is an esteemed Maitre d’Armes, specializing in both Foil and Epee. With a rich background in education and a deep commitment to advancing the sport of fencing, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the camp. His credentials include: Maitre d’Armes in Foil and Epee, Advanced Coaching Degree from Coaching Canada and International Coach Developer Certificate (ICCE), and High Performance Director for US Fencing Association (2009). He was USOC Fencing Coach of the Year 2007, and coach for the Silver Medal Team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics as part of Team USA in Women’s Foil, coach of Silver Medalists in Women’s Foil at the Junior World Championships (2014 & 2015) with Team Canada, and coach for Gold Medal in Women’s Foil at the Junior World Championships (2009) with Team USA.


ABOUT RFC:

The Rochester Fencing Club has a record of competitive achievement producing National, Collegiate, World, and Olympic Champions. More specifically, the RFC has qualified five members to the 1996 Olympics, four to the 2000 Olympics, one to the 2008 Olympics, has produced two World Champions, and placed many fencers on World Championship teams. RFC fencers have also won numerous team and individual National Championships.
