FRED Announces the WWD US Fencing Referee Certification Clinic w/ Kevin Mar


Please join us for this 2-day clinic with Kevin Mar. Kaizen Academy's KEO and Maitre, Kevin Mar, is a Certified Referee Instructor (CRI), FIE (international), IWAS (international wheelchair) and US Fencing senior national referee, will host a USA Fencing sanctioned referee seminar. The clinic will be held Fri 5-9pm and Sat from 8-12pm at Kaizen Academy Riverside. There is a Kaizen Cookie Challenge and Observational Event on Sat 9/20 starting at 12pm.

This will also be virtual seminar for those who are not able to attend live. Details for the zoom meeting will be sent to attendees after they have paid the registration fee. Attendees will still need to do their practical at a different time.


The clinic will cover all three weapons and is for fencers, coaches, and parents. The goal of the clinic is to help people interpret the US Fencing rule book and understand how to apply the rules. Attending a seminar is a prerequisite for all aspiring referees.


Attendees who would want to come would include:

- Aspiring fencing referees who want to know how rules are being interpreted at the national and international level

- Athletes who want to know what rules are being enforced at the national and international level

- Coaches who want to know what the current interpretations of rules at the national and international level

- Parents who want to know the rules better

- Current referees who need to fulfill their bi-yearly seminar attendance or for personal growth

Sat 9/20 12p-6p (Observational Tournaments - to be officially observed, you need to pass the online referee exam BEFORE the tournament)

The seminar portion will cover a broad understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and duties as a referee. All participants should peruse the US Fencing Rulebook so there is a general understanding. This class is not meant to substitute reading the material, it is meant to augment what you have read and learned thus far.
