This is the official USA Fencing Referee Seminar presented by Certified Referee Instructor Gary M. van der Wege
Interested in becoming a Certified Referee or just looking to learn more about the rules and interpretations?
This is the required first step for certification. the seminar covers General Rules applicable to all weapons, plus sections devoted to Foil, Epee and Sabre.
There are no age restrictions for the seminar. It is approximately 6 hours long (but it flies by and NO ONE has ever fallen asleep in mine).
A pizza lunch will be provided around noon.
Participants must be present for the entire seminar to receive credit. Upon completion of the seminar, you are eligible to take the on-line referee test and then be observed for an referee rating. One must have passed the test to be eligible to referee at any sanctioned REGIONAL or SUPER REGIONAL event.
If you are a fencer, coach or parent, you are welcome to come learn more about what officials are looking for, recent rule changes, interpretations and those little tricky rules that you may have never known existed. ASK FRED accounts are not required but it helps us prepare for the number of attendees.
Note: those over the age of 18 who wish to certify, must also complete the USA Fencing SafeSport training and background check.
Gary M. van der Wege PLY is a Fencing Master and CRI authorized to issue referee ratings.
