Age category DE start times are estimates - they will run concurrently with Combined DEs and start as soon as soon as fencers are available.
The above are initial event times may change based on registration - we will email registrants if anything changes.
Age Definitions:
40-49 = birth year 1976 to 1985
50-59 = birth year 1966 to 1975
60-69 = birth year 1956 to 1965
70+ = birth year 1955 or earlier
Selection competitions use the same age definitions of a veteran as the world's in October 2025.
As an example, the 40-49 age category includes fencers who are 39 years old in the 2024-25 season.
Sanctioning/Ranking:
The results of Veteran events will be reported back to the Canadian Fencing Federation.
The Veterans Committee of the CFF will be using the Combined or any specific age category DE events that are run for ranking, as appropriate.
Please ensure that you register for both the Combined event and your age category event.
Tournament Structure:
All times are close of registration, fencing to commence immediately afterward.
Veterans who register for 2 events will not be permitted to cause delays to the tournament and therefore will not be permitted to participate in 2 events simultaneously. In the case that the 2nd event begins before they have finished the 1st event, they will be required to withdraw from one of the events.
All fencers will compete in combined weapon pools, followed by a Combined DE event with 100% promotion.
40, 50, 60 and 70+ DE events will run concurrently with the Combined DE as soon as fencers are available.
Veteran event DE's will be a 10 point bout of two 3 minute (or break at 5 hits in sabre) periods, with a 1 minute break.
Veteran events will use #5 weapons.
Veteran events will require legal masks, lames, wires and weapons - only weapons will be tested on the strip, the remainder of equipment must be adequately functional and safe to the referee’s discretion.
Events require a minimum of 4 fencers to be run.
If an age category DE has less than 4 fencers then they may be added, at the discretion of the DT, to the next younger age group provided all of the fencers in the receiving age group agree. (Example - If there are only 3 fencers in 50-59, these can be added to the 40-49 tableau but not to the 60-69, and only if all fencers in the 40-49 group are in agreement.)
Fees:
Fencers pay a $16 tournament administration fee, a $48 entry fee per event, and a $11 per age category DEs through the AskFRED portal.
There are no "late fee" penalties for asking to join after registration closes, HOWEVER resources and formats will be decided based on registration as of March 8 - so if adding late registrants will cause events to become unmanageable, we may choose to decline to let you join...
There will be an additional admin fee through the AskFRED portal, so register for your combined and age events at the same time.
For refunds please contact us directly, DO NOT process them through the AskFRED portal or your credit card.
Tournament Rules:
Some of the items mentioned below may seem obvious, but safety is utmost.
All fencers will be required to:
- wear a minimum 350N rated fencing mask, fencing jacket, fencing pants and plastron (1/2 jacket)
- have adequately long socks (no skin showing), chest protector (optional for M events), and a glove in good (no holes) condition.
- wear decent, well fitting NON-MARKING runners.
- wear proper-sized, tucked-in t-shirts to insure that there isn't any skin showing between jacket edges and pants.
- use well-maintained weapons in good operating condition.
CFF Licenses:
All participating fencers will be required to have their CFF license (or foreign equivalent) for liability reasons.
USFA fencers please email name and events and we can pre-register you.
CFF Licenses can be obtained at: www.fencing.ca
Fencing Equipment:
All participants must have their own gear or borrowed from their club.
TFF will have very limited equipment to borrow during the event, so participants must come prepared with “back up” weapons, lames and wires.
