South Carolina Junior Olympic Qualifiers will be held November 18, 2023 in Columbia, South Carolina. Be sure to look below for very important information pertaining to the event!

Junior Olympic Qualifiers for the SC Division will be held in Columbia, SC November 18th, 2023. Fencers who qualify will be eligible to compete at the Junior Olympics in Charlotte, North Carolina February 16-19th, 2024!


Event Fee: $40 Per Event

No At-the-Door Registration. Pre-registration closes on 11/11/23.


Events Scheduled:


8:45 AM: Junior (U20) Men's Epee

9:00 AM: Junior (U20) Women's Foil, Cadet (U17) Men's Foil

10:45 AM: Junior (U20) Women's Epee

11:00 AM: Junior (U20) Women's Saber

12:00 PM: Cadet (U17) Men's Epee

12:15 PM: Junior (U20) Men's Foil

1:00 PM: Cadet (U17) Women's Foil,

1:15 PM: Cadet (U17) Women's Epee



Event fees will be taken on the day of the event; event fees must be paid in cash or check at the time of arrival. No other forms of payment will be permitted.


Doors will open 8:00 am on November 18th, while the first event of the day will be scheduled for 8:45 am. Events will be fenced as soon as possible after the close of registration. Event times have been scheduled. Check the AskFRED event page for more information. Events with 3 or less fencers will not compete, they will auto qualify. Events that will not run include Junior and Cadet Men's Saber, Women's Cadet Saber.



COMPETITION FORMAT:


One round of seeding pools with 100% promotion to direct elimination.


Fencers are required to have:

Full fencing uniform (Weapon specific mask, jacket, glove, plastron, knickers, long socks, chest plate for women)

Lame (Foil or saber)

Glove (all weapons - Saber gloves must be 800N FIE)

Cuff (Saber - if needed)

2 weapons

2 body cords

2 mask cords (Foil or saber)

Uniforms do not require the athlete's name to participate.


Armorers will be checking masks, lames, gloves, cuffs (Saber - if needed).


Fencers with a USAF Access Membership are permitted to fence in the qualifiers. Fencers who qualify for J.O's in Charlotte must upgrade to a competitive membership to fence in that event.


This is an age-restricted event. Fencers planning to fence in the Cadet events must be born between 2007-2010, while fencers planning to fence Junior events must have a birth date that falls within the years 2004-2010. The top 25% finishers of each event will qualify to attend the Junior Olympic Championships. Additionally, any AGE ELIGIBLE fencer who has qualified for Junior event(s) at the Junior Olympics is automatically qualified to fence in the corresponding Cadet event(s) at the Junior Olympics.


Fencers who are on the USA Fencing's National Rolling Points list are automatically qualified to fence at the Junior Olympic Championships. These fencers do not have to fence in this qualifying event in order to attend the Junior Olympics. They may, however, fence in this qualifier if they choose to.


Junior Olympics Qualification Paths


CADET


  • Fencers must meet age eligibility AND Be on the Cadet National Rolling Point Standings (NRPS) at the regular fee entry deadline
  • Earn at least 110 regional points on either the Cadet or Junior Regional Point Standings (Total points = an athletes top two point results)
  • Be in the top 25 percent (round up) of their division or top 3 in Cadet JO qualifying competition
  • Be in the top 25 percent (round up) of their division or top 3 in Junior JO qualifying competition (Junior event must occur first)
  • For EPEE ONLY: the top 3 (on Modern Pentathlon Point Standings) USA Fencing Modern
  • Pentathlon fencers will be eligible to compete in the JO epee events without qualifying by any other means. USA Modern Pentathlon fencers MUST be USA Fencing members


JUNIOR


  • Fencers must meet age eligibility AND Be on the Junior national rolling point standings (NRPS) at the regular fee entry deadline
  • Earn at least 110 regional points on the Junior Regional Point Standing (Total points = an athletes top two point results)
  • Be in the top 25 percent (round up) of their division or Junior JO qualifying competition
  • For EPEE ONLY: the top 3 (on Modern Pentathlon Point Standings) USA Fencing Modern
  • Pentathlon fencers will be eligible to compete in the JOI epee events without qualifying by any other means. USA Modern Pentathlon fencers MUST be USA Fencing members


Please remember to bring a valid proof of Date of Birth (state-issued identification, birth certificate, passport, etc.) or a USA fencing membership card that shows the athlete's date of birth has been verified by the national office. Athletes cannot compete without this information being verified.



Live results will be available at http://www.fencingtimelive.com. There will be no paper postings in the venue.
