NJ Division JO Qualifier - Juniors and Cadets

Please read the information below before registering.

This Junior Olympics Qualifier tournament is open only to members of the New Jersey Division to qualify for USA Fencing's Junior Olympic Championships, scheduled to take place on January 9-12, 2026 in Kansas City, MO. This Qualifier is for both Juniors and Cadet fencers.

REGISTRATION DEADLINES AND ENTRY FEES:

Regular registration deadline and fees: Tuesday, September 30, 11:59 p.m. ($25 registration fee, $40 per event fee).

Late registration deadline and fees : Wednesday, October 1, 12 a.m. and ends on Monday, October 6, 2025, 11:59 p.m. ($50 registration fee, $80 per event)

Withdrawal deadline to receive a refund of event fee only: Email Jennifer Hergert @ njdivision.usafencing@gmail.com by Monday, October 6, 2025 11:59 p.m. Timestamp of email received will be used for determining refund authorization.

1. There will be no refund of registration fee, askfred.net fee or Stripe fees.

THERE WILL BE NO WALK-INS. There are no exceptions to this policy.

If you do not get a confirmation when you register, your e-mail is not correct in askfred.net. By registering in this tournament, you agree to share your registration information with USA Fencing.

This qualification tournament is for New Jersey Division registered fencers ONLY who wish to qualify for the Junior Olympics in the Under-20 age groups. Fencers must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents representing the United States and current members of USA Fencing. Athletes that have represented another country in the last 3 years at FIE-level competitions, (Veteran/Senior/Junior) and those athletes that represented another country in the Cadet World Championships are not eligible to compete in a National Championship, unless the athlete has been officially approved by the FIE to represent the USA.

Those who fence in the New Jersey Division Junior Olympics Qualifier must be either residents of Essex, Morris, Hudson, Somerset, Hunterdon, Union, Bergen, Passaic, Sussex, Middlesex, Monmouth, Warren, Mercer, and Ocean Counties or be a member of a registered New Jersey Division Club located in the listed counties for the 2025-2026 fencing season. Your membership must show that you are a member of the New Jersey Division. This can be checked by logging into your membership information on usafencing.org.

You must have an current USA Fencing membership (Access or higher) to compete in this tournament. You must show your USA Fencing card or have proof that your membership payment has been made. Because this is an age restricted event, if your birthdate is not verified on your USA Fencing membership card, you must bring proof of birthdate, for example, passport or birth certificate.

Qualifying for Junior Olympics:

The top 25% of the competitors in each event qualify for the Junior Olympics.

1. The Junior (U20) age group consists of fencers born in the years 2006 through 2012.
2. The Cadet (U17) age group consists of fencers born in the years 2009 through 2012.
3. Please note that Cadet Fencers are eligible to fence in the Junior age group.
4. A fencer born after 2013 or later can fence in the Junior (Under 20) Championships qualifying tournament, if the fencer is on the National Cadet (U17) point standings at the time of the entry deadline for that tournament.
5. A fencer born after 2013 or later can fence in the Cadet (Under 17) Championships qualifying tournament, if the fencer is on the National Y14 point standings at the time of the entry deadline for that tournament.

Medals will be awarded for 1st through 3rd place for each event.

If you are on the National Points list and wish to fence up in your age category please email the organizer BEFORE the posted deadlines for permission to register and help in registering. This must be done before the registration deadline.

This is a local and division member specific tournament. No points are awarded for participating. Please do not fence if you have already qualified for Junior Olympics. Fencing Time does not have a provision to skip over those who have already qualified.

YOU ARE NOT CONSIDERED TO BE REGISTERED UNLESS YOU HAVE PAID THE REGISTRATION AND EVENT FEES. YOU MUST REGISTER ONLINE AND YOU MUST PAY ONLINE.

Please make sure that you have an email listed on your askfred registration in case the event organizers need to contact you.

Fencers are considered registered when their names appear on the "Who's Preregistered?" list on the askFred listing for this tournament. You are not fully registered if your name appears as "incomplete" in this listing. It is your responsibility to ensure your registration.

There will be NO reminder emails sent to competitors that are registered without completed payments. It is your responsibility to be aware of the registration deadlines.

Sanctioning and Format:

This tournament is sanctioned by the New Jersey Division of the USA Fencing. The format for each event consists of a round of pools with 100% promoted to the direct elimination round. The top 25 percent of competitors in each event qualify for Junior Olympics. There is no fence-off for third place if there are at least 13 fencers in the event. A minimum of 3 fencers will be qualified for each event. If there is more than one fencer, you are expected to fence in the event.

Fencer's Equipment:

All fencers are required to comply with the USA Fencing standards for uniforms and equipment. Each fencer must bring at least two functional weapons, two body cords, and two mask cords for foil and sabre that meet USA Fencing requirements. Testing of weapons will be done on strip. There are no exceptions to the attire and equipment rules. Fencers should arrive at the venue dressed in whites as changing in the rest rooms WILL NOT be permitted.

Armorers will test the mask, lame jacket or vest, and gloves, (800 Newton glove is mandatory for saber) and body and mask cords. All lame materials (mask, bib, jacket, vest, saber glove or manchette) will be tested for conductivity. Items that have passed inspection will be specifically marked.

Important Dates and Deadlines:

1. Tuesday, September 30, 11:59 pm: Last day to register and pay regular fees.
2. Wednesday, October 1, 2025, 12 am: Begin late registration period
3. Monday, October 6, 2025, 11:59 p.m. End late registration period. NO ONE will be permitted to register for this tournament after this date, and there are no walk-ins. Last day to request a refund (via email only to njdivision.usafencing@gmail.com attention Jennifer Hergert) of event fees only.
4. Sunday, October 12, 2025: Tournament Day.

NO REFUNDS AFTER Monday, October 6, 11:59 p.m. Request for withdrawal MUST be received by email by Monday, October 6, 2025 by 11:59 pm. Refund checks will be mailed 4 weeks after the end of the tournament.
