W&M Conomikes-Gutenberg Memorial Open

2/21 - William and Mary will reopen today at 5PM, tournament will move forward as normal. Think to use the parking garage next to the venue versus the street, not sure what the roads will be like on campus. Registration is closed. Please, no refund requests in the last 48 hours of the tournament, expenses have been incurred and this is after all a fundraiser for the college club!

2/20 - 7-9" snow received last night, campus is closed until Friday morning at this writing. Updates expected during the day and we will let you know if they impact the tournament this weekend.

All events have hit their cap excluding the Senior X Foil and Senior X Epee. Will confirm during the day whether to open any up (not saber) and will post.

2/19 - Sent initial note to all regarding snow warning in Williamsburg. Williamsburg is expected to receive 5-9 inches of snow TODAY (Wednesday). We do not expect this to impact the tournament, but the University has reached out to organizers to let them know that the possibility of the campus to be closed this weekend exists. We will OVERcommunicate until this is resolved.

There are two fencers who are unpaid in some events, which prevents people from registering for Saber and D3 epee... they have been written to, and at 9pm if the pre-reg is still there, they will be deleted.

2/15 11PM - As stated earlier, all non paid pre-registrations for both saber events were deleted a bit after 8PM (11pm, sorry people, but I am in bout committee at Junior Olympics currently, and had to stay late today.). I also increased the cap for Senior Mixed Saber, but also want to say that at this point, we will FLIGHT the Saturday Saber event to support more entries. I do not believe we can go over 49 confirmed entries, so, if you are registering, you better pay at the same time.

At the end of every day until registration close, I will clear out all unpaid pre-registrations for both saber events until they hit their cap.

I will NOT add fencers to events based on email or telephone call, so please do not. These events are always First Come First Served in ASKFRED. It's the most fair solution (not perfect), but it has worked for these college clubs events since we've partnered with the clubs.

This is why I always write and encourage college clubs to register AND pay at the same time, so there isn't an issue with competing. If I can get more Saber referees, we may be able to open caps, but right now we are set at 49 for Senior and 42 for D3 (which is amazing).

The Annual Conomikes-Gutenberg Memorial Open IS A DIVISION SANCTIONED W&M FENCING CLUB FUNDRAISER and will be held on 2/22 and 2/23 at the W&M Adair Gym @ 251 Ukrops Way in Williamsburg.

Senior Mixed AND D & Under events begin at 9:00 with medals to the 8. $35 event Fee must be Pre-paid here on AskFred. The William & Mary Fencing Club has organized this event with the VA Division, and the division promises a well-run college club event with highly rated referees and bout committee. Events will be competed on a gym floor with strips taped out.

$35 per event fee must be paid in advance here on AskFred. Unpaid preregistrations will be deleted after the registration close date of 02/20/2025. Requests to be added to the event after the tournament close MAY BE DECLINED, due to space or referee limitations. No refunds will be issued once the open registration has closed.

You are HIGHLY encouraged to register AND pay at the same time to reserve your space and to give the organizers - who want to ensure the best possible experience - the opportunity to find good referees and run a smooth and well-managed event. There will be CAPS placed on all events.

There will be times when organizers will send notes to unpaid registrations giving 12 or 24 hours to finalize or their pre-registrations will be deleted. Also, with the new Askfred system, it is much easier to register and pay for all of your events at once, versus one at a time - if this is possible for you.
