Introduction to refereeing, intended for fencers in the CT high school fencing program.
This workshop will cover the basics of refereeing. We will talk about:
- What it means to be a referee
- Ethics
- How to run a strip and scoring box
- How to troubleshoot equipment problems
- How to fill out the score sheets
...and much more.
The target audience for this workshop is Connecticut high school students. However, it will also be informative for parents, coaches, and anyone else interested in learning why that guy standing next to the strip keeps waving his arms around.
A participant in this workshop should emerge ready to referee at the high school level. They will also be on their way towards taking the certification tests, and becoming a certified USA Fencing referee.
This workshop will be run by the coaches of the Milford Fencing Club. We have been refereeing at the local, regional, and high school level, and training fencers to be referees, for several years. Our goal is to use our experience to improve the state of local officiating.
This workshop will begin at noon, and we estimate that it will take 6 hours.
