This clinic will cover the basics of refereeing fencing, the USFA rules, and practical advice for refereeing. It is suitable for all members of the fencing community (fencers, coaches, parents, etc.) but is most useful for new or developing referees who want to develop their skills or satisfy the USFA Certified Referee Instructor Seminar requirement for licensing.
SCHEDULE: The seminar will be held on 4/19 from 10:00 am – 5:00pm, with a break for lunch (not provided, though a group may order from local restaurants). Observational exams for interested attendees are available on 4/20 at the NEUSFA Division 2/3 Summer Nationals Qualifiers starting at 8:30 am. Referees interested in being observed should speak with Matt Tucker on the day of the seminar to arrange observations.
INSTRUCTOR: Matt Tucker is a Certified Referee Instructor with the USFA and a holder of FIE Licenses in both Foil and Sabre. Matt has nearly ten years of referee experience with the USFA, FIE, and NCAA and is a member of the USFA Referees’ Commission National Domestic Development Committee.
PAYMENT: $75, through AskFRED, by April 18. No late registration or walk ins will be allowed.
LOCATION:
Boston Fencing Club, 100 Holton St., Boston, MA 02135 – parking is available on site.
CONTACT: Email Matt Tucker at matucker@mail.com.
EXTRAS: Attendees wishing to be observed for a USFA referee rating should take the online written referee exam before the observation. Details on the exam can be found on the USFA’s Becoming a Referee page, and a study guide for the written exam is available here.
