The long-awaited Poujardieu Memorial Tournament is Back! Reserve your weekend! more info soon

The Poujardieu Fencing Tournament was started in the early 1980s during the lifetime of Maitre Gerard Poujardieu, Sr. who was a long-time epee coach of USA Modern Pentathlon then based in San Antonio, Texas. He was the founder of the South Texas Division of the Amateur Fencing League of America (AFLA) as USA FENCING was then known.

Maitre Pouj also started several fencing clubs in Central Texas and gave fencing lessons at many high schools in Central Texas. The whole of the Poujardieu Family was a driving force for the promotion of fencing for men and women for all of its existence, in their native France and here in their adopted country. After his death in the summer of 1984, it became a memorial, and following the passing of his wife, Louise, and eldest son, Gerard, Jr. (also a fencing master) the tournament became a memorial to a fencing family. Local, regional, national, and international fencers have taken part in this tournament over the years. Highlights have included when Mexican National Teams or Team members have taken part and medaled in most, if not all, of the events, offered. In 2009, the Poujardieu Memorial was one of the first Regional Open Circuit tournaments.

The 2024 Poujardieu Memorial Fencing tournament will be held this year on the weekend of April 13-14 2024.

The venue is at the Student Recreation Center at Texas State University

AGE CRITERIA FOR OPEN TOURNAMENTS

The USFA Board of Directors has ruled that for any USFA competition that is not specific to an age group, an athlete must be at least 13 years old as of January 1 of the fencing season. The exemption to this rule applies to any fencer who is younger than 13 on January 1 but who is listed on the latest National Junior Point standings; then that fencer is allowed to compete in the USFA competitions not specific to an age group. The athlete must meet any other criteria stated for that competition. Examples of such non-specific competitions are: "Open", "Unclassified", "A" competitions, "C" or under competitions, and Team competitions of any category unless specified for juniors or similar age-restricted categories.

The equipment check will start at 8:00 a.m.

All events will be fenced electrically. Equipment checks will consist of gloves, masks, body cords, and lames. Sabre cuffs, underarm protectors, fencing knickers, and any safety equipment per USFA regulations are REQUIRED.
